2022 SEASON DEDICATION Nebraska Shakespeare is proud to dedicate our 2022 SHAKESPEARE ON THE GREEN series to the memory of Marian & Andy Anderson.

Marian & Andy were forces for transformation not just with Nebraska Shakespeare but throughout our entire community. They were our earliest advocates and became our life-long champions.

As proud born-and-raised Nebraskans they believed that diverse, engaged, and well-informed communities were not only worthy of their time and attention, but are essential to achieving and sustaining what we Nebraskans like to call “The Good Life.”

When Nebraska Shakespeare was first created in the early 1980’s by Alan Klem and Dr. Cindy Melby Phaneuf, it was a natural fit for Marian and Andy to become involved. They saw Nebraska Shakespeare as not only an opportunity to help support, build and promote Nebraska communities, but as an opportunity to bring the timeless magnificence of Shakespeare, free of charge, to all citizens.

They helped to make this vision a reality through tireless advocacy and successful fundraising, and Shakespeare On The Green was born.

1 — Nebraska Shakespeare

As Shakespeare aficionados, they knew the value of the fine arts in bringing people of diverse backgrounds together and in creating a greater sense of community.

Marian remained dedicated to Nebraska Shakespeare even after Andy’s death in 2015, remaining on the Board of Directors until her death in late April of this year.

While our Marian and Andy are no longer with us, their spirit of giving back lives on through Nebraska Shakespeare.

FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR Nebraska Shakespeare is committed to explore what it means to be human through the creative spirit of Shakespeare. Our vision is to create an inclusive world of belonging for every Nebraskan through bold authentic artistic experiences.

Shakespeare’s works allows us to explore human nature and society through theatre arts and storytelling. Today, many people have become increasingly more aware of the effects of colonialism and racism in our societies and are looking for ways to be more inclusive and equitable. The American theatre world is reexamining how it does business in an effort to become more inclusive and representative of today’s society.

The Shakespearean theatres of the world are in lock and step with that effort, looking for ways to show that Shakespeare’s works are for everyone. His stories are about the human condition and are as relevant today as they were four hundred years ago. Shakespearean theatres are looking for ways to make his works personal and relevant to today’s society by connecting his stories to contemporary events and by being conscious of showing a diversity of bodies and voices on the stage and behind the scenes. Asking questions of “Why this play?”, “Why now?” “How does it relate to current events?”

The great American writer James Baldwin wrote of Shakespeare: “The greatest poet in the English language found his poetry where poetry is found: in the lives of the

people. He could have only done this through love – by knowing, which is not the same thing as understanding, that whatever was happening to anyone was happening to him. It is said that his time was easier than ours, but I doubt it – no time can be easy if one is going through it. I think it is simply that he walked his streets and saw them, and tried not to lie about what he saw: his public streets and his private streets, which are always so mysteriously and inexorably connected; but he trusted that connection.

And, though I, and many of us, have bitterly bewailed (and will again) the lot of an American writer – to be a part of a people who have ears to hear and hear not, who have eyes to see and see not – I am sure that Shakespeare did the same. Only, he saw, as I think we must, that the people who produce the poet are not responsible to him: he is responsible to them.

That is why he is called a poet. And his responsibility, which is also his joy and his strength and his life, is to defeat all labels and complicate all battles by insisting on the human riddle, to bear witness, as long as breath is in him, to that mighty, unnameable, transfiguring force which lives in the soul of man, and to aspire to do his work so well that when the breath has left him, the people – all people! – who search in the rubble for a sign or a witness will be able to find him there.”

I am excited and look forward to adding to the rich history of Nebraska Shakespeare.

I look forward to exploring the human condition through the great works of Shakespeare.

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR The Tempest works its magic in many ways.

The goal of any Tempest production is to unlock the richness of this tale so that it echoes in the imagination of our audience.

The Tempest is a fantasy about political power and social responsibility. It is also an allegory examining the growth of the human spirit. It is a symbolic fight between rational, civilized, controlled order and the chaos of nature. On a personal level it is a battle between control and self-determination. The play swerves between an epic picture of the world at a crossroads, and an intimate searching to define the individual’s humanity.

In the twenty-first century, one beset by battling factions, political upheaval, chaotic warfare, a pandemic, and the daily media digital diary of conflict, The Tempest’s exploration of human potential and fallibility seems particularly timely.

In Brave New World, in 1932, Aldous Huxley described a future society completely saturated with scientific technology but at a loss of all the human values we hold dear. It was a preface to the development of nuclear power and the ability to wipe life from the face of this planet. I see Prospero as a cousin to a line of scientists going back to Teller, Oppenheimer, Bohr, Einstein, Currie, Pasteur, Galileo, Newton, Copernicus, and Ptolemy, who sought ultimate knowledge of the universe in order to control it. In the twentieth century the scientist faced

the responsibility and ramifications of achievement. The desire to do good did not curtail the human ability to do evil. The twenty-first century seems to be replaying the angst of the previous one.

The Tempest is Prospero’s journey towards self-understanding. It is an elaborate playing out of his ideals, fears and sins, towards a realization of the impossibility of controlling human nature. In his magic lies the power to control and ultimately destroy life, and with it the moral and ethical responsibility of having that power. The other characters are extensions of Prospero, pulling on him from all directions. Prospero is conducting this elaborate exorcism on his own past in order to move to something greater. He doesn’t know exactly where he will end up, but he must move forward at all costs. He knows that his past and current relationships will transform into something else when he reveals the truth, faces his human fallibility, gives up control, and achieves forgiveness.

The travelers and the island’s inhabitants are, to a person, without a home. They are searching this island for somewhere to land.

They need to face themselves before they turn back towards home.

In addition to the above descriptions of the internal map of the play, it is built on top of a joyously boisterous theatrical demonstration of the chaos of being human, filled with music, foolishness, dance, humor, and the wonder of the creative spirit.

COMPANY BIOGRAPHIES

John Beasely*

Jeremy Stoll

PROSPERO

ALONSO

John, actor, director and producer, is an Omaha native who has appeared in over a hundred film and TV productions. John is also a recipient of two honorary Doctorates and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. John is married to Judith. They have two sons, Tyrone and Michael, both of whom are working actors. John’s latest feature film Firestarter is currently in theaters and streaming on Peacock.

Later this year, John will appear in the Chicago Shakespeare’s production of the Broadway bound The Notebook.

Jeremy is the theatre teacher and director at Westside High School in Omaha, as well as thedirector of musical theatre at the Jewish Community Center. He earned a Masters in Theatreand in Educational Administration, both from the University of Nebraska Omaha. His passion isin the area of directing and devised theatre.

In 2019, he directed Little Wars, an original devisedwork that performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. His favorite role is as husband to his amazing wife, Erin, and dad to two beautiful girls, Eliza and Charlotte. Jeremy is happy to return to Shakespeare on the Green after an 8 year hiatus.

Christian Negroni ARIEL

Christian is excited to be making his Nebraska Shakes debut! Classically trained,he has recently studied at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. Christian is a lifelong New Yorker (born on Long Island and residing now in Brooklyn).

Rebecca Rose Mims MIRANDA

Rebecca, from Detroit Michigan, is a current graduate student at the FSU/ Asolo Conservatory. Her training includes a bachelor’s degree in Acting/ Directing from Central Michigan University and two years in the Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit. Rebecca Rose is overjoyed to be a part of the 2022 season of Shakespeare on the Green at Nebraska Shakespeare. She would like to thank her close friend, Peggy Randon, for thrusting Rebecca Rose into her first audition.

Seth Wichman FRANCISCO

Seth is incredibly excited take part of his fourth production here at UNO. A graduate of North High he spent a year majoring in vocal music at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, participating in the concert, chamber choirs and show choir. He felt most at home on the stage, taking part in one-act musicals and Opera Workshop. He transferred to Metro-Tech with the goal of transferring to UNO to pursue the Theatre. He was recently seen as in Unsex Me Here, Shakespeare, Wind in the Willows, She Kills Monsters, and the musical Ernest in Love.

Jill Anderson* ANTONIO

Jill Anderson, an Omaha native, has had a long career in the arts working primarily as a singer, actor, director and educator. Her performance career has spanned the United States with theatre and concert appearances in venues as varied as the Library of Congress in Washington DC to an abandoned train station in Omaha, Nebraska. Besides professional theatre, concert and cabaret work, Jill has acted as Artistic Director for the Joslyn Castle Literary Festival, recorded four CDs of Irish folk music, and created theatre projects for people with developmental disability. Jill has had the pleasure of performing the role of Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd at Barter Theatre in Virginia and at Lawrence Arts Center in Kansas. Jill first appeared on the Green in year 2 of the festival’s existence!

Beth Ann Hopkins* CALIBAN

Michael Judah FERDINAND

Michael is an Omaha native and has been seen locally throughout the years at the Blue Barn (Heroes of the Fourth Turning), Nebraska Shakespeare (Taming of the Shrew), Great Plains Theatre Conference, and Omaha Arts and Culture. He is a recent graduate of the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training where he has performed as Romeo (Romeo and Juliet-tour), Orlando (As You Like It), and Valentine (Arcadia). He would like to thank his family for supporting him and his second family at Underwood Hills, without whom he would not be here. (@mtjudah)

Kevin Bray SPIRIT

Kevin Bray is a Theatre major, attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He graduated from Papillon La Vista high school in 2020. Kevin has been a huge fan of Theatre for as long as he can remember. Favorite productions include, Hairspray, Guys and Dolls, Footloose, Mamma Mia! Aida, Unsex Me Here, Shakespeare! The Wind In the Willows, She Kills Monsters, and Ernest In Love. His life goal is to make it to Broadway, or Hollywood. He also loves to dance, as he did 6 years of show choir through middle and high school. He is excited and proud to be portraying one of the spirits in this production of The Tempest, and hopes that everyone enjoys it!

Mary Kelly GONZALA

Mary recently appeared as Sil in Benson Theatre’s production of 20th Century Blues. Favorite roles include Hannah Jelkes in Night of the Iguana, Gertrude in 33 Variations, and Marilyn in Recommended Reading for Girls. In 2016, she won an Omaha Entertainment Award for Best Actress in the role of Wendy Darling, in The Feast at Shelterbelt Theatre. Mary has received TAG Awards for Best Actress for her performance in BLUEBARN’s Night of the Iguana and for the role of Manny in BLUEBARN’s Poseidon Adventure: An Upside-Down Musical. She is honored to be a part of this season’s Nebraska Shakespeare Festival.

Rueben Wakefield

Isabel Gott SPIRIT

Isabel just finished her first two semesters as student at UNO, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in voice studies, and starting next semester will also be majoring in theater with a concentration of musical theater. Isabel is excited to be in her first production with Nebraska Shakespeare. Notable roles include Maria in West Side Story, Penny Pingleton in Hairspray, Sister Mary Robert in Sister Act, Olive Ostrovsky in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, ensemble in Once on this Island, In the Heights, and most recently as Cecily in Ernest in Love with UNO Theater. She would like to thank her family and friends for their constant support in her endeavors.

Ruben Is thrilled to be making his Nebraska Shakespeare debut. Hailing from Chicago, IL, Rueben received his Drama/Television/Film Degree from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK. Rusty (he/him) is thrilled to make his Nebraska Shakespeare debut this season! He most recently appeared in The Chinese Lady (Atung) and the solo play Hold These Truths with GENseng Asian American Ensemble and the world premiere of Shoyu Tell with Lexington Children’s Theatre. Rusty previously spent four seasons at the Barter Theatre where he appeared in 30 productions including The SantaLand Diaries (David), The Producers (Leo), and Great Expectations (Miss Havisham & Herbert). Katie is delighted to be returning to Nebraska Shakespeare! Previously she was Ensemble in King John, and Eleanor in A War of Roses: Foreign Flames. Some of her favorite roles include Laura in The Glass Menagerie with Brigit Saint Brigit, and Farrah the Faerie in She Kills Monsters with both Creighton Theatre and UNO. She has a Master’s degree in Theatre Performance from the University of Nebraska - Omaha, where she now teaches as an adjunct theatre professor. She is also a voice actor, film actor, and puppeteer. McKenna Cottone is delighted to be a part of Nebraska Shakespeare’s production of The Tempest. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in Theater at the University of Nebraska at Omaha where she recently played the role of Lady Bracknell in Ernest in Love. Before UNO, She acted at Millard North High School where she was recognized by the NHSTA as an Outstanding Female Performer for the roles of Kala in Tarzan and the Witch in Into the Woods. Outside of college, McKenna is an improviser at the Backline theater and is the Assistant Musical Director at Millard North Middle School.

Preeti Thaker (she/her) is a proud South Asian actor based in Chicago.

She is thrilled to be a part of Nebraska Shakespeare on the Green’s production of The Tempest. As a classically trained Indian vocalist and Bharatanatyam dancer since a young age, her cultural pursuits have always been central to her as an artist. Preeti is a 2018 alumni of the prestigious School of Steppenwolf, and has had the privilege of acting in a number of productions with many acclaimed theater companies in the past few years, including: Steppenwolf Theatre’s Dance Nation, A Red Orchid Theatre’s The Moors, and Court Theatre’s The Lady from the Sea, among others. Roderick Hickman is making his debut with Nebraska Shakespeare. He is a graduate from CSU Sacramento with a degree in Theatre Arts. He has also trained with the Williamstown Theatre Festival and Chekhov Studio International. Roderick currently resides in Riverside, CA. Recent roles; (Benvolio) Romeo and Juliet for Sacramento Shakespeare Fest. and (Oliver) As You like it for Method and Madness Theatre Co; Other roles include B Street Theatre’s White Room (James), Beverly Hills Playhouse Choice (Greg), Williamstown Theatre Festival Hunger (Prentice), Celebration Arts’ Gem of the Ocean (Citizen Barlow), and a short film by Cortina Productions Bacon’s Rebellion 4D (Father/Storyteller). Scott joined the graduate faculty of UNO Theatre in 2004, becoming Professor and Chair in 2009 and transitioning to Artistic Director in 2017.

He is teaches directing, acting, theory, film and Shakespeare.

Scott’s production of The Playboy of the Western World was selected to perform at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Regional Conference. At UNO he directed his adaptations of Aristophanes The Birds and Shakespeares Much Ado About Nothing. He represented UNO at 6 university theatre festivals at Siauliai University, Lithuania, including directing Lithuanian students in a production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town. He has led student study abroad intensives in London.

Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Scott received a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the State University of New York, Geneseo, and a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Cornell University. He has been a stage director, actor and teacher throughout his professional career. He helped create a flourishing theater program at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and was a founding member of the Dakota Theatre Caravan, a theatre collective that created plays about and for the people of the rural Great Plains. For eight seasons he was resident actor/director at Actors Theatre in St. Paul, where he also worked as playwright and Education Director. Scott produced and performed the play Minnesota with musician Peter Ostroushko at the Edinburgh International Festival, and worked with the Playwright’s Center in Minneapolis for thirteen years on the development of original scripts as director, dramaturg and actor.

Under Scott’s ten-year artistic leadership, Madison Repertory Theatre grew in reputation and programming as a professional regional theater, including expanding its mainstage, outreach, education, and play development programs.

Scott has directed over 180 productions including operas, musicals and premiere productions of plays by Lee Blessing, Jon Klein, Martha Boesing and Steven Dietz. As Associate Artistic Director for the Nebraska Shakespeare Festival he directed Julius Caesar, The Winter’s Tale, Hamlet, The Tempest, Richard III, Othello, Antony and Cleopatra, Love’s Labor’s Lost, King Lear and Macbeth. Recent directing include Cowles Scrimmage Anthology, A Walk in the Woods, At the Vanishing Point and Waaxe’s Law for the Great Plains Theatre Conference, Mauritius, Becky’s New Car and Heroes for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre and Sherlock’s Last Case for Kansas Repertory Theatre.

As a member of Actors Equity Association, Scott was the Twin Cities Liaison for AEA. Favorite roles include Henry in The Real Thing, Trigorin in The Seagull, Henry Higgins in both Pygmalion and My Fair Lady, Felix in The Odd Couple, Colm in Sea Marks, Captain Hook in Peter Pan, Shakespeare’s Mercutio, Shylock, Touchstone, Benedick, Dromio, Edgar, Adam, and Hamlet and everything in Indecent.

He is also a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers union and the American Association of University Professors.

THE TEMPEST SYNOPSIS Act 1

hungry and usurped Prospero with the aid of the king Alonso. Cast adrift in a boat, Prospero and the young Miranda eventually landed on this island, where they took as servants the spirit Ariel and Caliban, who is native of and originally ruled the island. When Ariel reveals to Prospero that his enemies are exactly where he wants them, the magician initiates the next stage of his plan, promising freedom if Ariel assists. Prospero entices Ferdinand to them by magic, and encourages him and Miranda to fall in love, while pretending to disapprove.

the sound of strange music, spirits materialize in front of them and produce a banquet. Before they can eat, Ariel appears and makes the banquet vanish, while condemning Alonso, Antonio, and Sebastian for their part in ousting Prospero.

Alonso (King of Naples), his son Ferdinand, and Antonio (Duke of Milan) are travelling by sea when their boat is caught in a terrible storm. Shipwrecked, they and their party are cast ashore in separate areas of a strange and apparently deserted island. They are unaware that the tempest has been caused by the magic of Prospero, their former duke and now the island’s ruler. Prospero explains to his daughter Miranda how they arrived on the island twelve years earlier: Prospero was the Duke of Milan, but his brother Antonio became power-

Alonso and his companions are searching for Ferdinand. Ariel, who remains invisible, sends everyone to sleep except Antonio and Sebastian, Alonso’s brother. These two then plot to murder Alonso and the courtier Gonzala, but Ariel wakes the others before they manage to do it. On another part of the island, Trinculo and the drunken Stefano come across Caliban, to their mutual shock. Caliban thinks Stefano must be a god and offers to serve him in the hope of escaping Prospero’s control.

Prospero has enslaved Ferdinand and made him carry logs, but the young man does so willingly to serve his beloved Miranda. Watched secretly by Prospero, the two pledge to marry each other. Caliban tells Trinculo and Stephano that he is Prospero’s slave. He proposes that they murder the magician, and that Stephano marry Miranda and rule in Prospero’s stead. When the voice of Ariel interrupts, Caliban and Stephano think that it is Trinculo speaking, and the men squabble.

Alonso and his party have given up hope of finding Ferdinand when, to

Prospero admits that Ferdinand’s servant tasks were to test his love for Miranda, and he now blesses their marriage with a masque performed by spirits. Suddenly remembering Caliban’s plot against his life, Prospero angrily halts the performance and calls Ariel to help him. When they finally arrive at Prospero’s cell, Stephano and Trinculo are distracted by fancy clothing that were washed ashore, before they and Caliban are chased away by spirits disguised as hunting dogs.

ACT 5

Ariel reports despair among Alonso and the other Neapolitans. Prospero instructs Ariel to bring them to him. Ariel does so, and to their amazement, Prospero appears and reveals who he is. Prospero then produces Ferdinand, safe and with Miranda, and all are reunited and reconciled. Ariel is guaranteed freedom, Caliban is forgiven, and Prospero renounces his magical arts and declares that he will return to Naples as Duke once again.

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR In the story of Othello we explore the ego’s affect on human nature. We look at how ego plays a role in love, jealousy and racism.

Ego affects the relationship between Iago and Othello, two soldiers who were great friends, trusted each other with their lives as they have fought together over the years on the field of battle.

Iago feels so hurt and betrayed by Othello when Othello promotes another soldier to a position the Iago feels is rightly his, that he is determined to destroy everything that Othello has. In his jealousy, Iago plays on the egos of everyone around him. He plays on their racism and stokes their jealousies and he ends up destroying their lives. Many characters refer to Iago as being exceedingly honest. How and why do they all fall victim to his machinations?

Shakespeare’s works allows us to explore human nature and society through theatre arts and storytelling. Today, many people have become increasingly more aware of the effects of racism in our societies and are looking for ways to be more inclusive and equitable. Shakespeare’s Othello invites conversations that speak to those very topics.

We staged our performance in a contemporary world. Our set is minimalistic, tables and chairs, to place the emphasis on the story, themes and characters of Othello and at the same time harken back to the minimalistic sets of the original Globe Theatre during Shakespeare’s time.

The production of Othello is seen by some as a racist and irredeemable play. In our production we explore the different ways in which our society practices the othering of human beings. In our exploration we look at what would lead people to behave in the ways that they do. We explore and invite conversations on race relations. We explore – are there ways to play against stereotypes?

Brabanzio’s wild claim that his daughter has been “enchanted”

by Othello is dismissed when Desdemona enters and confirms her love. As the couple immediately leave for Cyprus, we learn that Iago, who Othello trusts wholeheartedly, is plotting Othello’s downfall.

as a love token. Othello demands it back from his wife, who, innocently, avoids admitting losing it, and instead tries to turn the subject back to Cassio. Othello storms away frustrated. Meanwhile, Cassio finds the handkerchief on the floor in his room, and he asks his love-interest (and courtesan) Bianca to copy the pattern of the cloth.

realizes that Iago was the true villain, and she speaks out against him. Iago has arrived during this time, and after Emilia’s reveal, Othello attacks him, but Iago kills Emilia and escapes. Iago returns under arrest, but he vows to “never speak again,’ thus keeping his true motives a secret. Othello finally realizes the truth and, after asking Cassio’s forgiveness, stabs himself.

The play opens with Roderigo and Iago in an argument. Roderigo is in love with Desdemona, and Iago was helping him woo her. Desdemona, though, eloped with Othello, the black commander of Venice’s military. Iago claims to be upset about being denied a promotion

by Othello in favor of Cassio. They decide to inform Brabanzio that Desdemona, his daughter, eloped.

Brabanzio is appalled by the news of his daughter’s marriage, and he sets off to confront Othello. Meanwhile, a sighting of a hostile Turkish fleet leads the Duke of Venice to summon

News has arrived that the Venetians have survived a major storm to reach Cyprus safely, while the storm halted the attacks of the Turkish fleet. Roderigo is also in Cyprus, and Iago continues to exploit Roderigo’s love for Desdemona, convincing him that Desdemona is in love with Cassio. Iago successfully persuades Roderigo to pick a fight with a drunk Cassio, resulting in Cassio striking a fellow officer and losing his lieutenantship under Othello.

Iago then advises a now distraught Cassio to reach out to Desdemona to help win back Othello’s favor.

This plan, though, helps Iago’s own secret plan to convince Othello that Cassio is having an affair with her.

When Desdemona intervenes on Cassio’s behalf, Iago suggests to Othello that she does so out of more than mere friendship. Othello resists the idea at first, but as Iago gradually elaborates, the idea of her adultery seems more feasible. When Desdemona reappears, she tries to reassure and comfort her husband’s concerns. In the process, she loses her handkerchief. Iago’s wife Emilia finds the handkerchief on the floor and gives it to Iago, who seizes the chance to build on Othello’s suspicion. Iago tells Othello that Desdemona has given it to Cassio

Iago successfully encourages Roderigo to attack Cassio, but Cassio gets the advantage and wounds Roderigo. Iago takes advantage of the chaotic moment by slashing Cassio’s leg and later stabbing Roderigo to death—both without anyone knowing. Othello, meanwhile, is about to kill the sleeping Desdemona when she awakens; despite her anguished denials, he smothers her in their own bed. Discovering them both, Emilia insists on Desdemona’s innocence. When Othello mentions the handkerchief, Emilia finally

Iago continues to fuel Othello’s jealousy to the point where Othello collapses in an epileptic episode.

When he recovers, Iago arranges for him to overhear Cassio talking about Bianca. Othello is convinced that Cassio is discussing his affair with Desdemona, and he becomes even more certain that Desdemona is unfaithful. He resolves to kill her, while Iago agrees to murder Cassio.

When a delegation arrives from Venice recalling Othello, he publicly abuses Desdemona (to everyone’s horror) and later, in private, continues the insults and accusations.

He is a faculty member for the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater BFA Actor Training Program in Minneapolis. Regional credits include roles at Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, Texas, and Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festivals, Lookingglass Theater (Chicago), Riverside Theater (Iowa City), Hope Repertory (MI), and the Delaware Theater Company. Anna Jordan (she/her) is thrilled to return for her 10th year On the Green. Anna holds her BA in theatre performance and directing from UNO. She has worked with The Rose Theater, The BLUEBARN Theater, Juno’s Swans, Brigit Saint Brigit Theatre Company, Great Plains Theatre Commons, Nebraska Shakespeare, RESPECT, Omaha Symphony, Omaha Performing Arts, and has toured nationally with the Nebraska Theatre Caravan.

In 2021, Anna received Amplify Arts’ Drew Billings Artist ANNA JORDAN Support Grant, and launched The Founder’s Project—a mentorship program for theatre artists. She is currently adjunct faculty at UNO teaching Acting. Later this summer, she will direct an original Shakespeare adaptation at the Omaha Fringe Festival with her production company, The Found Ensemble. annajordan.co

Patrick Vest IAGO

Patrick Vest: Patrick is thrilled to be working at Nebraska Shakespeare this summer. He is a Los Angeles based actor, who has performed all over the country. Patrick is working his way through Shakespeare’s Canon and has been in over 50 productions of 25 of the Bard’s plays. Favorite roles include Richard III, Macbeth, Leontes, Marc Antony, Titus Andronicus, Shylock, Malvolio, Caliban, and Bottom. He received his MFA in acting from the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and continues his study with Jack Stehlin and Alfred Molina at New American Theatre in L.A. He’d like to dedicate his performance to the memory of his father, Jerry, who was from Schuyler, and would have been tickled that his son was bringing his passion to Nebraska.

Michael Judah CASSIO

Michael is an Omaha native and has been seen locally throughout the years at the Blue Barn (Heroes of the Fourth Turning), Nebraska Shakespeare (Taming of the Shrew), Great Plains Theatre Conference, and Omaha Arts and Culture. He is a recent graduate of the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training where he has performed as Romeo (Romeo and Juliet-tour), Orlando (As You Like It), and Valentine (Arcadia). He would like to thank his family for supporting him and his second family at Underwood Hills, without whom he would not be here. (@mtjudah)

Preeti Thaker MONTANO

Preeti Thaker (she/her) is a proud South Asian actor based in Chicago.

She is thrilled to be a part of Nebraska Shakespeare on the Green’s production of Othello. As a classically trained Indian vocalist and Bharatanatyam dancer since a young age, her cultural pursuits have always been central to her as an artist. Preeti is a 2018 alumni of the prestigious School of Steppenwolf, and has had the privilege of acting in a number of productions with many acclaimed theater companies in the past few years, including: Steppenwolf Theatre’s Dance Nation, A Red Orchid Theatre’s The Moors, and Court Theatre’s The Lady from the Sea, among others. Preeti is grateful to be represented by Stewart Talent.

Roderick Hickman

Roderick Hickman is making his debut with Nebraska Shakespeare. He is a graduate from CSU Sacramento with a degree in Theatre Arts. He has also trained with the Williamstown Theatre Festival and Chekhov Studio International. Roderick currently resides in Riverside, CA. Recent roles; (Benvolio) Romeo and Juliet for Sacramento Shakespeare Fest. and (Oliver) As You like it for Method and Madness Theatre Co; Other roles include B Street Theatre’s White Room (James), Beverly Hills Playhouse Choice (Greg), Williamstown Theatre Festival Hunger (Prentice), Celebration Arts’ Gem of the Ocean (Citizen Barlow), and a short film by Cortina Productions Bacon’s Rebellion 4D (Father/Storyteller). Roderick would like to thank his family and friends for their love and support. He hopes you stay safe and enjoy the show.

Rebecca Rose Mims EMILIA

Rebecca, from Detroit Michigan, is a current graduate student at the FSU/ Asolo Conservatory. Her training includes a bachelor’s degree in Acting/ Directing from Central Michigan University and two years in the Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit. Rebecca Rose is overjoyed to be a part of the 2022 season of Shakespeare on the Green at Nebraska Shakespeare. She would like to thank her close friend, Peggy Randon, for thrusting Rebecca Rose into her first audition.

Tyrone Beasley DIRECTOR

Tyrone served as Artistic Associate/ Director of Outbound Programs at The Rose Theater where he headed The Rose Theater’s Community Connections outreach program which partners with various organizations throughout the community with the aim to actively recruit socioeconomically disadvantaged students for theater, musical theater and teen classes, workshops and theater productions.

He served as the Artistic Director at The John Beasley Theater (JBT) in Omaha for ten years. He earned a BFA in studio arts from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He attended California State University, Long Beach for graduate study in theater arts. No stranger to the stage Tyrone has worked with acclaimed directors: Peter Sellars (The Merchant of Venice, It is Now Our Time), Claude Purdy (Jitney), Charles Marowitz (Shakespeare), and David Wheeler (The Trials of Ezra Pound) among others. Tyrone has performed in many theaters around the globe including The Goodman Theatre (Chicago), Victory Gardens Theatre (Chicago), Thalia Theater (Hamburg, Germany), MC93 Bobigny (Paris, France) and The Royal Shakespeare Company (London, England). He has worked in front of the camera and behind the scenes in post-production on film and television projects for Disney, Fox, Sony, VH1, TriStar Pictures and the BBC.

FROM THE PRODUCTION DIRECTOR Welcome back, Dear Theatre and Shakespearean lovers!

It has been a long three years since we were last on the green. A lot has occurred to and around each of us.

Reflecting for a moment, I think back since the last time Nebraska Shakespeare performed. We have been experiencing a global pandemic – an event that was last seen 100 years ago! We have witnessed the events of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and sadly so many others. We feel the frustrations of a housing crisis, food and supply shortages, school shootings, financial turmoil, and arguably, the worst of them all, the war leashed upon Ukraine. How is it we find ourselves rejoicing as we celebrate being back on the green?

Please allow me to remind you of the magic and power of theatre, which, by the way, are themes of both productions this season – - Theatre has sustained through thousands of years of the human condition - Shakespeare wrote of the human condition - Our community allows us to celebrate - and mourn - together through the best and worst of the human condition
