Final Project Proposal After some long thought out mental debates amongst myself and peer suggestions I believe that

it would be best if I developed a personal artist portfolio website. In the past I have started to create a website but I just never had the time to follow through with it because I would get side tracked by work and other school projects. This class gives me motivation to pursue this till the very end. I have some experience with Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, and Illustrator. All these programs can be used to complete the task at hand. Over the next week I will be brainstorming my site layout, sketching it out on paper, and then laying it out in either Photoshop or Fireworks. My site will consist of a splash page, a home page, sections to show case my art work, an about me page, and contact info page including my resume. I want this site to represent me in the best way possible so I will try my best at creating a site that reflects my personality.

I am pursuing a career in the gaming industry and I want to be able to “put my best foot

forward. In the past I have spoken with recruiters from top gaming companies and most of them say that they prefer for prospective employees to have a website or a link to their work. They very rarely look at demo reels on DVD’s anymore because it’s too much of a hassle to keep changing out DVD’s. It’s more convenient to just type or copy and paste a link in a search bar and look at someone’s work that way. This is why I think it’s important for me to have a website. I do already have a Vimeo.com account with some work on it but there aren’t many options for personalization. As for the interactivity I do plan on incorporating some flash elements but not too many because I hear from others that a flash website can be a bit tricky to edit.

I want my site to consist of scrolling images that move either left or right depending upon where

you place your cursor. Scroll over navigation has always been one of my favorites and it adds some style to a website. I believe that blogs are important because they allow for potential employers and other artists to comment on your work and leave very valuable insight on how they feel about your abilities. It’s very gratifying to hear or see words of encouragement from people who have more knowledge than you. So, I will research on how to implement a blog section into my website or some kind of way for people to leave messages. Perhaps in my contact me section I could have an area for people to email me their messages. I want this site to be easy to navigate through and interactive enough so that visitors to

the site don’t get bored. If you can please let me know how you feel about me doing a website and how I can make it awesome.

Below is a display of the layout and structure of my website. I'm still debating on whether or not I want a side bar for navigation or just have a navigation bar on the top. I'll go with what looks best. I'm still trying to decide on what color scheme I should go with.

This is my home page in progress:

About me page:

Currently I am in the process of gathering content for my site and I'm working on some basic functionality.

This is my portfolio page. I want to place images and video here. I want the pictures to scroll or either just open up in a new window.

Contacts page. Here I want to input a section for people to leave their contact information and a message.

These past couple of weeks has been a bit of a struggle but when it comes to building a website. I guess I forgot how difficult it could be to create a website without much assistance or advanced knowledge of the latest web trends. I feel as though my personal portfolio site came out pretty good and but I will continue to add content over the next couple of months because I will be completing more projects and compiling more images and videos. Below is a screen shot of my home page. It features my welcome statement and it tells a little bit about what I’m in the progress of creating. To the bottom left you see a still image from the Flash .swf slide show that I put together showing my work in progress. To the right of that is an image of my character layout sheet from my other class project.

As you can see I’ve changed the appearance of my website because I just wasn’t happy with the overall look of the old site design. This design is simple and not too busy.

My second page is my “About Me page and it features some information about me and my abilites as an artist. I even listed some of the programs that I use the most on a daily basis. This site is tailored to future employers from the gaming industry so I wanted to put some of my most important skill sets on this page. I also have an icon for my resume that they can click and view my resume pdf.

Currently I only have posted up one project in my “portfolio” section but there is more to come. There is so much content that I want to be able to display but I just don’t have the time to compile it all right now. Users are able to click on my thumbnail images and view a larger version of them in a separate window. I really want to put together an interactive slide show which would be better and keep people from leaving my site. Since I already had my character turntable uploaded to Vimeo.com users can just click on the Vimeo icon and view my character turntable.

This is my contacts page which will allow visitors to my site to get in contact with me via email, Facebook, or follow me on Twitter. I really wanted to include contact information sheet brackets but I’m not too sure on how to do that. Currently I am looking for web hosting and I hope to have this site up within the next couple of months or so. The site navigates well and I didn’t have any issues with it.
