Passivehaus study and design

A passivehaus is a building which, through various practices, manages to minimize its energy needs and at the same time improves living conditions by providing optimal thermal comfort to its users.

One of the main features of a Passivhaus is its internal temperature stability with minimal fluctuations during all seasons. Also, indoor air quality is always better than outdoor air, as this air passes through special filters before entering the building.

The five basic principles of a passive building are:

1. Increased thermal insulation.

2. Better quality of window & door frames.

3. Heat recovery air management system.

4. Airtight construction.

5. Elimination of thermal bridges.

In order for a building to be certified as a Passivehaus, it must be designed by a Passivhaus certified designer, and be constructed to meet the high standards set by the Passivhaus Institute Germany.
