S

ummer break is coming to an end here in Collier County. It’s time to pack up the sunglasses and beach towels and trade them in for school supplies. For parents who may not have gone shopping just yet, school supply lists may be found on your child’s school website, along with dress code information. Aug. 13 is the first day of school for Collier County Public Schools (CCPS). To ease some of those first-day jitters, we have plenty of Meet the Teacher events, Open Houses, and Curriculum Nights ahead. To view the schedule broken out by school, visit www.collierschools.com and take a look under the District Announcements area. Also helpful on our website, parents are able to export the Academic Calendar directly to their phones. From the home page, click on the Calendar icon located in the green navigation bar. (Tip: It has the number “31.”) On the following page, click the Export icon, located near the top right. You can then select the date range you wish to export. Voila! For those who are familiar with the first day of school, you know we’ll be sending home plenty of paperwork to be reviewed and completed. Why not get some extra credit and start early? CCPS will be sending an email two weeks before school urging you to visit the CCPS Portal (www.collierschools.com/portal) to update your contact information (phone and email), opt in to text messaging (should you wish to do so), and acknowledge some important paperwork. If you complete the information online, you won’t need to worry later when everyone is busy adjusting to the new school schedule. There is one very important piece of paper that is not online and will be coming home the first day of school – the Annual Student Emergency Information Form. You’ll want to complete this form and return it to the school as soon as possible, preferably the next day. It ensures that we are able to reach you in the event

of an emergency and have the most current medical information for your child. Some other things you’ll see: the 2019-20 Academic Calendar/ Family Organization Station and the Social Emotional Learning Guide. These two resources are sure to be valuable in planning your schedule and supporting your child’s social and emotional needs. If you haven’t already, now would be a good time to start instilling a proper bedtime routine in preparation for school. Getting to bed early and having enough rest will ensure your child is bright-eyed and ready to learn upon arriving at school. Enjoy the remaining days of summer, and know that we are looking forward to welcoming you, our #CCPSFamily, back on Aug. 13!
