Regional Education Associations What is the NDREA?

The NDREA is a network of the eight Regional Education Associations* (REAs) across North Dakota.

Who are members of the NDREA?

The NDREA’s primary members are the REA Directors. Other members include REA lead administrators and representatives from other organizations that help to advance the NDREA’s mission.

What does the NDREA do?

The NDREA promotes collaboration among the eight North Dakota REAs in order to produce higher degrees of statewide resource efficiency and program and service effectiveness than might otherwise be achieved by individual REAs operating independently.

The mission of NDREA is to support and strengthen education in North Dakota. *A Regional Education Association (REA) is a group of school districts seeking to improve their educational programs and services through cooperation and pooling of resources. There are eight REAs in North Dakota, and 96% of all the public school districts in the state, are members of an REA. About 98% of all public school students in the state are served by an REA. Each REA offers unique programs and services based on the needs of the region. Beginning in 2011, all the REAs began working toward consistent offerings of high quality programs and services in the areas of professional development, technology support, data systems support, school improvement support, and curriculum enrichment.

GNWEC - Scrubs Camp

Scrubs Camp is a one-day, hands-on opportunities for students designed to increase awareness, interest and understanding of health careers available in North Dakota through creative and interactive activities. Scrubs Camp provides area 7th graders with first-hand experience of the challenges, opportunities and rewards of health careers, all while learning the skills and education required to become a health professional.

MDEC - Health and Wellness Initiative

In partnership with the N.D. Department of Health, the MDEC is raising awareness and building school capacity to help students stay active and engaged in their learning. Working with representatives from all MDEC schools and numerous community organizations, it’s developing plans to enhance learning through activity, brain research, and nutrition and wellness. It offers opportunities such as indoor recess, active recess, archery training, mental health first aid and suicide prevention.

MREC - Career & Technical Education Welding Academy

In collaboration with the Missouri River Area Career and Tech Center (MRACTC) and Bismarck Public Schools, this Academy focuses on advanced skills and weldtesting procedures to help prepare students for the workforce or applicable college programs. The Academy is for proficient and intermediate student welders with instruction adapted to individual learner needs. Online and ITV courses on agriculture, aviation, electronics, information technology, medical careers, STEM, and more are also available through the partnership with MRACTC.

NCEC - STEM Investigation Team

Through collaboration between NCEC and Dakota College at Bottineau, college students mentor public school students with STEM academic enrichment. Each year, over 2,000 students and educators participate in hands-on activities: iPad star gazing, 3-D NASA dome, water festival, paper robotics, water bodies, rocket launch, and career fair readiness. These activities allow young students to gain knowledge and apply their skills while the college students create new learning and develop leadership skills.

NESC - ESC-Coordinated Supports for Professional Learning

For several decades, the region has shared two in-service days, typically hosting national-level presenters to provide professional learning opportunities for schools. In recent years, the NESC began offering additional specific content and grade-level professional learning communities as well as providing on-site professional learning sessions. To ensure the needs are being met, the NESC works with school leadership teams to develop customized, professional learning plans. Last year, NESC saw 100% participation from its districts.

RESP - Principal Leadership Network Series (PLN)

The PLN Series encourages and assists principals in enhancing leadership skills while providing tools and methods to reach their goals. A yearly focus is determined from principal feedback and current educational needs. It focuses on models of change, N.D. State Standards and Principal Teacher Evaluation Systems. In the past two school years, the PLN series served 17 school districts, with attendance from elementary and secondary principals and another three school districts from neighboring REAs.

RRVEC - Professional Learning and Collaboration

For the past six years, the RRVEC has facilitated and supported professional learning communities. Educators meet both face-to-face and online to collaborate on common initiatives, such as using data to guide instruction and the Marzano evaluation framework. While working on these initiatives, educators are introduced to 21st Century competencies with ongoing instructional technology support.

SEEC - N.D. Reading Corps (NDRC)

NDRC’s goal is to help every N.D. child become a successful reader by the end of 3rd grade. It combines the people power of AmeriCorps with the science of how children learn to read. In the 2013-14 school year, 24 NDRC tutors served 419 students in K-3 classrooms while 4 PreK tutors served 49 children ages 3 to 5. The K-3 students served fall just below proficiency and typically do not qualify for other reading intervention services. Districts involved include Bismarck, Fargo, Hazen, Jamestown, Mandan and West Fargo.
