Registration
Once the SEEC has a completed calendar, all opportunities will be ready for registration through its online registration system, escWorks. All districts must have their teachers/teams register online through escWorks to officially reserve their spot!
Customized, On-site Professional Learning
The SEEC can provide schools and/or districts with customized professional learning. These sessions can be conducted during staff meetings, late-starts, early-outs or full-day sessions. The SEEC has applied for a waiver of instructional time from the N.D. Department of Public Instruction. Districts choosing to participate in this waiver are eligible for late-starts or early-outs for the purpose of professional learning. As part of the waiver agreement, participating districts must collaborate with the SEEC for implementation of sessions. SEEC ‘collaboration’ can include co-planning or facilitation of the sessions.

Mental Health
Mental Health Mandate: Once every two years, each school district shall provide a minimum of eight hours of training on youth mental health to elementary, middle, and high school teachers and administrators. Each school district shall encourage ancillary and support staff to participate in the training. The training must include: a. Understanding of the prevalence and impact of youth mental health disorders on family structure, education, juvenile services, law enforcement, and health care and treatment providers; b. Knowledge of mental health symptoms, social stigmas, risks, and protective factors; and c. Awareness of referral sources and strategies for appropriate interventions. Each school district shall report the outcome of the training to the Department of Public Instruction. The Superintendent of Public Instruction shall collaborate with regional education associations to disseminate information, training materials, and notice of training opportunities to school districts and nonpublic schools. Suicide Prevention Mandate: Annually, each school district shall provide to middle school and high school instructional staff, teachers, and administrators, at least two hours of professional development relating to youth suicide risk indicators, appropriate responses, and referral sources. The Superintendent of Public Instruction shall collaborate with the state department of health to obtain and disseminate to school districts and nonpublic schools, free of charge, information and training materials, including those available through the Jason Flatt Foundation. Reporting: Districts will report training dates, participants, and outcomes using the NDDPI STARS * Suicide prevention is often included in mental health training and the two topics are interrelated. However, mental health training is more than suicide prevention. Within the youth mental health training, up to two hours per biennium may be counted as suicide prevention as long as the training meets the requirements in NDCC 15.1-19-24, addressing “youth suicide risk indicators, appropriate responses, and referral sources.”

• Elementary or secondary teams OR district level teams • Team based (Average size: 5-10 people) • 1 building administrator REQUIRED per team The goals of this project are to become familiar with and implement essential components of a tiered support system that will increase student achievement. This course is an in-depth study of the essential components associated with implementation of a school-wide Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Primary focus will be given to the development and use of elements used as part of a three-tier instructional model including the establishment of: (1) effective systems, (2) universal screening, (3) researchbased interventions, and (4) problem solving for systems, groups, and individual students. Emphasis will be given to translating current educational research into practice to help schools maximize resources and outcomes for all students, including those with disabilities. Examples of data systems for universal screening and progress monitoring will be identified. Specific reading and math interventions (that really work) and examples of successful models will be discussed. Succeed 2020 grant covers some program costs.
