SEEC is 1 of 8 regional education associations originally created in July 2005 with 17 schools. In July 2008, SEEC merged with the South Central Education Cooperative and its 18 schools. Today, SEEC has more than 31,000 students and 3,500 teachers, in 43 school districts. Through this merger, the Executive Committees and Governing Boards wanted to build on the strengths of each organization and expand services to support schools in increasing student achievement. SEEC’s membership includes school districts, colleges, special education groups, and career and technical education centers. It provides support to schools in areas such as technology, grant writing and expanded opportunities in professional development. Assisting schools in reaching their goals for student achievement has become central to our mission.

Dear Members Dear Friends of the SEEC, It seems as though the ink just finished drying on last year’s annual report and we're already recapping another successful year. As in the past, we're again focusing on recognizing the continuous and positive growth of the organization and its' programs and services. Growth occurred in many forms over the last year including new services to benefit members; more opportunities for collaboration amongst districts and REAs; developing relationships with new and existing partners; along with monetary increases in grant revenue and fees from services. As you may, or many not, know, Regional Education Associations (REAs) became fully funded in the 2005 legislative session and the SEEC was established in July of 2005. With that said, we are excited to be approaching our 10th year of operation. As stated earlier, the SEEC has had tremendous growth over the years and the pace doesn't seem to be slowing down. Currently, the SEEC follows the most recent the strategic plan that was approved in the 2009-10 school year. Now, it’s time to work with our members and partners to create a new plan addressing the changes occurring in schools, communities and within the organization itself. The first steps towards a new plan began in May 2014, with nearly 400 administrators, teachers and school staff completing surveys and providing feedback on the SEEC's mission, goals, governance, services and more. Over the summer months, SEEC staff worked with and surveyed its board members, member school district boards, and community partners asking them to share their vision for the SEEC. This survey data, along with several regional small group feedback sessions, will be used to help create a new strategic plan to guide us through the next five years. During this strategic planning process, we are mindful of challenges and opportunities the SEEC may encounter. The following issues are expected to be on the horizon: • How do we balance the needs of both small and large school districts? • Where should we invest resources to ensure the greatest impact on all schools? • How does the SEEC transition into becoming its own fiscal agent? • What is the SEEC’s role in working with state agencies, regional universities and community partners? We are so thankful for the trust and support we’ve received from our member school districts, communities and regional partners and hope it continues for many years to come. Our hope is that you'll participate throughout the strategic planning process to help strengthen our organization's future. We know how precious your time is and appreciate every second you share with us. Sincerely, Kyle Davison, SEEC Executive Director
