INTO THE WOODS
A sad story --- Just fifty years ago, over 13,500 Catholic schools spread across this country, serving six million students. Today, we have less than half that many helping but two million kids. The story behind the story --- We can all recite the reasons for the plummet … fewer vocations, dramatically increased costs, decreased economy, shifting populations. And on and on and on. A proud story --- But ND is one of those that has not only survived our 140 years, but we have thrived, getting ever better. A school that is preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist. One that encourages them to tackle problems not yet solved. One that praises a God who promises to come yet again. A story that tells why --- She walked in my office to talk about her child. The girl was a dream. Life and school and friends had always come so easy to her. Likely headed to her choice of colleges, she’d always done homework and chores and bedtime with never a word. Mom hoped for a challenge to get her ready. But her second child was far different (aren’t they all?). He had struggled since the first day of Pre-K. School was hard, friends were harder, smiles were hardest. But they were making it. And he, too, would go to college. Mom hoped for a place that felt like ‘home’ to get him ready. She had come because she heard our Catholic School was what she had always remembered. But better. 140 years – It’s impressive to have such a long history, but it’s far more important to have that sort of future. Come celebrate what she found! George Valadie ‘71 NDHS

The senior class had beautiful weather at their annual overnight retreat this fall. The seniors spent two days at Horns Creek where they enjoyed Mass, Adoration, music, and outdoor activities including the ropes course, rock climbing, and paintball. Fr. Mike Creson even found a little time for some fly fishing.
