Letter from President of the Board

It is with great pride and gratitude that I reflect on the many accomplishments of Notre Dame Housing over the past year. One of the most significant milestones was the opening of our 5,000-square-foot Life Enrichment Center in February

of 2024. This new space is dedicated to combatting isolation, promoting wellness, and fostering community connections among our residents and community members.

With its permanent food pantry, exercise space, and gathering areas, the Life Enrichment Center stands as a testament to our commitment to not only serve more people but also meet a wider range of needs.

One of the key elements of the Life Enrichment Center is the food pantry, which operates five times a month. This vital resource ensures that anyone in the community, without question, has regular access to food. Since its opening, we have seen a remarkable increase in both the volume of food distributed and the number of individuals served. From February 2024 through June 2024, the food pantry distributed 21,702 pounds of food, representing a 63.5% increase compared to the same period last year. We also saw a 16% rise in the number of people served. These numbers reflect the growing need in our community and our determination to meet it head-on.

From July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024, Notre Dame Housing hosted an impressive total of 1,473 programs, attended by approximately 17,682 people.

These programs were carefully crafted to address a diverse range of topics, including 164 educational sessions, 532 programs aimed at preventing senior isolation, 326 wellness programs, 98 initiatives addressing food insecurity, and 86 dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusivity.

Building on this momentum, we now offer over 122 programs each month, engaging around 1,500 participants on a consistent basis. The continued strong attendance highlights the lasting impact of our programming and the critical role it plays in the lives of those we serve.

As we look toward the future, our mission remains clear. We will continue to combat isolation by creating a sense of belonging and community for our residents. We will persist in addressing food insecurity by offering access to nutritious meals and essential resources. We will continue to educate and empower our seniors, ensuring that they have the tools and support to lead fulfilling lives.

In closing, I want to express my deepest gratitude to our dedicated staff, volunteers, partners, supporters, and the residents of Notre Dame Housing. Together, we will continue to build a future where everyone has access to safe, affordable housing and the opportunity to thrive.

With gratitude,

Moments from the Year

One of the memorable moments at Notre Dame Housing this year was when residents had the opportunity to attend a Creighton basketball game. For many, it was a first-time experience. This event highlights the

Another heartwarming moment this year at Notre Dame Housing was when residents welcomed their favorite furry friends from Pups with a Purpose. These regular visits bring smiles and comfort to residents.

Moments from the Year

Julie Masters, a professor in the Department of Gerontology at the University of Nebraska Omaha and the distinguished Terry Haney Chair of Gerontology, has been a valuable resource for our residents throughout the year. Julie leads educational sessions on a variety of topics, focusing on emotional and social wellness. Her presentations equip residents with practical tools to improve their overall well-being, offering not only education but also encouraging meaningful discussions.

This year, Sr. Mary Ann Zimmer, ND, began sharing her artistic talents with residents by teaching watercolor painting classes. Through these sessions, residents explored new techniques, learning about textures and the beauty of watercolor blooms. The classes are so well-received.

Moments from the Year

The Notre Dame Players took center stage this year with their incredible performance of Bottom’s Dream, the play within the play from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. After weeks of hard work and dedication, the residents delivered an outstanding show that left the audience thoroughly entertained. A sincere thank you to Patty Driscoll and the Nebraska Arts Council for making the entire process come together so seamlessly.

Lucas Schulte from Tri-Faith Initiative provided Notre Dame Housing residents with an enlightening presentation on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam: Similarities and Differences. The presentation not only deepened residents’ understanding of different faith traditions but also encouraged meaningful dialogue about shared values and beliefs. It was a wonderful opportunity for learning and connection within our community.

Moments from the Year

This July, we took the opportunity to show our gratitude to our local fire and police departments for all they do for us at Notre Dame Housing. To express our appreciation, we surprised them with "Christmas in July" baskets filled with delicious cookies. It was a small but heartfelt gesture to thank these everyday heroes for their dedication and service to our community. Their smiles and appreciation made the occasion even more special!

The residents of Notre Dame Housing got active and energized during DrumFit with Becky! As residents drummed to the beat, they were also getting a great workout. DrumFit is a fun and energentic way to stay fit for our residents.

Defining Moment of the Year

On February 21, 2024, Notre Dame Housing unveiled its new Life Enrichment Center –a space dedicated to combatting isolation, promoting wellness, and fostering community connections. With amenities such as a permanent food pantry, exercise space, and gathering areas, we aim to not only serve more people but to meet more needs of our residents and community members.
