Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and summoned the elders, the heads, the judges, and the officers of Israel; and they presented themselves before God. And Joshua said to all the people, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Long ago your ancestors--Terah and his sons Abraham and Nahor--lived beyond the Euphrates and served other gods. "Now therefore revere the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. A Reading from the Word of God written in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians Chapter 6 beginning at the 10th verse

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints. Pray also for me, so that when I speak, a message may be given to me to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John Glory to Christ our Saviour.

Jesus said, Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever.� He said these things while he was teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum. When many of his disciples heard it, they said, "This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?" But Jesus, being aware that his disciples were complaining about it, said to them, "Does this offend you? Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But among you there are some who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the first who were the ones that did not believe, and who was the one that would betray him.

And he said, "For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted by the Father."

Because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. So Jesus asked the twelve, "Do you also wish to go away?" Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom can we go? From the Rector's Notebook Greetings: There are times in parish life when we are asked to walk just that little extra half mile for the renewal of our faith.

One such occasion is when we observe the Paschal Triduum, the three days of the Easter Weekend during which we celebrate Jesus’ path and passage from this world to the Father.

The other is the week of the Dedication Festival.

Our Festival of Dedication starts this evening and continues until next Sunday evening.

We will celebrate with Solemn Evensong, Sermon and Procession during the week on Tuesday and Thursday but on Wednesday will be our 7:00pm Mass as usual.

While we all love Sunday morning Mass and have worked it into our plans for the weekend; we are being asked to make this adjustment so that we can participate in the services.

Our parish will become stronger as a result of our worship together. The liturgy is primarily about what God almighty has done and continues to do for us.

As a result of our participation in these divine and sacred rites we too get to know each other better and so strengthen the relationship that exist among us.

Within the context of the week we will meet clergy from across the Diocese as they bring the messages from God almighty and in addition we !6

get to meet others who have come to support us in our endeavours.

Festivals of Dedication are steeped in Jewish antiquity and scholars often point to the reDedication of the Temple during the Maccabean era. This ihas come down in the tradition as the the eighth day Festival of Hanukkah.

Brian C. Dennert in an article entitled Hanukkah and the Testimony of Jesus’ Works (John 10:22-39) tells us that Hanukkah recalls the dedication of the houses of God. (Numbers 7:10-11; 1 Kings 8:63; 2 Chronicles 7:5; and Ezra 6:16).

The Dedication Festival recalls for us the presence of Jesus Christ in our lives as he seeks to build us as a parish into that true spiritual temple.

(Ephesians 2: 19-22) Let us make the effort this week to participate in the Festival of Dedication.

26 Duncan Harris DAILY VACATION BIBLE CAMP We express thanks to the Camp Director, the Assistant Camp Director, the Counsellors, Facilitators, Cooks, Contributors and all who assisted in any way to the just concluded Vacation Bible Camp. There was a record ninety two (92) children and so this year it was a really mammoth task. Thanks again!!!

XXIV GOODWILL GAMES We congratulate Heidi Stoute who represented Barbados in the XXIV Goodwill Games held here in Barbados last weekend. Heidi was awarded the age group champion trophy, and with the help of her 3 other teammates in the 8 and under division won gold in all 3 of their relay races.

Heidi also improved her times in all 6 of her individual events.

THIRD INTERNATIONAL KARATE DAIGAKU (IKD) WORLD TOURNAMENT Congratulations to Julie-Ann Burke who represented Barbados and gained a Bronze Medal in Team Kumite at Third International Karate Daigaku (IKD) World Tournament held last weekend at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium REQUIESCAT IN PACE We pray for the repose of the soul of the late Canon Ivor McK. Jones, who died on Thursday morning. Canon Jones, a centenarian has been a long standing priest of this Diocese. We pray for his family and may his soul rest in peace.
