NCC mine.
NCC mine is situated in the Kriel area of Mpumalanga and includes New Clydesdale Colliery and Roodekop.
Having been purchased from Exxaro, NCC has now returned from a mothballed mine to a profitable production.
ROM coal is processed at the existing coal handling and processing plant (CHPP) and the NCC plant has also been upgraded and renovated to meet current production requirements.
NCC Timeline.
Phase 1
(September 2016) involved underground mining from Diepspruit, utilising conventional board and pillar mining methods with continuous miners (CMs) and shuttle cars. Drill and blast mining methods were used for dyke areas.
Phase 2
(February 2017) saw the development of the contractor operated truck and shovel open-pit at Roodekop.
Phase 3
saw the opening of a new boxcut and we expect to break ground on this project during the second half of the 2023 financial year.
This project is expected to contribute an additional 25.3 million tons to the remaining reserve.

Stats at 30 June 2022:
NBC Mining Complex.
NBC Mining Complex is situated outside Belfast in Mpumalanga.
The Complex consists of the Glisa, Paardeplaats and Eerstelingsfontein mining rights, making use of open-pit strip mining methods with continuous rehabilitation. Located near Eskom’s Arnot, Tutuka and Komati power stations, production consists mainly of domestic thermal coal along with export-quality coal.
Eerstelingsfontein’s rehabilitation is currently being finalised, whilst the rest of the operations process coal, selectively, through a 350tphr raw bypass crush & screen plant as well as the DMS plant with capacity of 700tphr. NBC also owns a rail siding, which is being refurbished for use on the Maputo, RBCT and Durban rail networks.

Ubuntu Colliery.
Our Ubuntu Colliery is a single-product coal mine located in the Mpumalanga Province 20 km Southeast of Delmas and 18km North of Leandra.
Its mining rights include several resource blocks but our focus includes the two resource blocks North of the mining right, OC1 (OCNE) and OC2 (OCNW). Ubuntu’s remaining resource blocks are currently being considered for future extraction and the mining where the ROM coal is placed on ROM surface stockpiles. This resource is then crushed and screened to meet with current domestic coal supply agreements.
