editor's desk e are here again striking the second note second time.. After recording a tremendous response to the inaugural issue of the NCR Life focusing on all spans of life across the non capital region, we are buoyed to come out with our second edition to it. Undoubtedly, we owe a feeling of gratitude and thankfulness to all of our patrons- readers, advertisers, sponsors, contributors and distributors for spreading the tentacles of this intellectual property all through the region. India witnessed a global phenomenon in form of hosting the first International Yoga Day celebrated on June 21. It was the dream come true of the vision cherished by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose desire to connect with country’s pristine glory from the past came to fulfillment. In the aftermath of the mega event, the entire region broke into an inspontenious buzzing of ‘Yo Yo Yoga.’ Inspired by the all-pervasive yoga bite, the NCR Life devoted itself to divulging the real inroad this new infection has made through conducting surveys among people of all hues and ages. We are amused to publish the outcome heralding the yoga turning into a new rage; the most glaring trend affecting all and sundry. news & views Dinesh Kumar he bitter stand off between the Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi and the Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is reaching the flashpoint following the great ruckus created over the appointment of Delhi women commission chief. This fresh bout of wrangling cropped up after the commissioner met Kejriwal recently and explained to him steps being taken to improve security for women, amid AAP government's persistent demand to hand over control of the force to it. Kejriwal had summoned Bassi after the gruesome murder of a 19-year old girl in Anand Parbat area, holding that the law- and-

T

order situation in the city has deteriorated considerably. Kejriwal had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'with folded hands' to hand over the control of the Delhi Police to Delhi government. He has to run the whole country."Ahead of the meeting with Kejriwal, Bassi called on Lt Governor Najeeb Jung. "Police is always accountable towards the system. According to police sources, the Chief Minister's Office had asked Bassi to bring a list of pending cases of crime against woman, status of the cases filed as well as details of the SHOs who have not been transferred despite completing their terms. Bassi was also asked to bring a list of beat constables and list of inspectors who were never made SHOs. A meeting between Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Police Chief BS Bassi today ended up underscoring their conflict. A fresh twist to the growing

tangle was added by Delhi’s Home Minister, Satyendra Jain, who came out of the meeting charging the top cop, Mr Bassi, with taking the crime lightly. "It is not acceptable that a girl was stabbed 32 times and it was not taken seriously. We have serious objections to the police calling it a dispute and saying that the girl had insulted her killers," he said. The Delhi Police chief however vehemently denied the

charge of being insensitive. "If there are expectations that are not within the purview of law, or are based on ignorance of rules, those expectations cannot be met as the responsibility of the police is not just to provide succor to the victim but to protect society in general," Bassi told reporters. In the 90-minute meeting, Bassi was asked to furnish a set of lists, including one of pending complaints related to crimes against women, and one of beat

constables in the city. Kejriwal continued harping that the girl's killing is an example of police inefficiency and the reason why his government - not the union home ministry - should be in charge of the city police, does not seem to hold ground. Bassi, however, said he believed Delhi was fortunate to have a system in which the police could work impartially, without fear or favour, without political pressure.

In an interview recently, CM of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal said that a Delhi police men are 'thulla' who seeks money from street vendor. We are going to highlight a ASI of Delhi police, who had retired after completion of 42 years service with honesty and dedication. He has awarded as the first person of the Delhi Police who was the higher services. NCR Life doesn’t support and condem the word 'thulla'.

Since joining as a constable to today I were faced 14 transfers.

Ans. My 42 years .experience in delhi police is too good specially when I received the reward as the longest seving officer in Delhi Police.

In 42 years many officers reached the post of SHO, ACP and DCP but you retired asASI post why ? Maximum persons who joined police as constable they retired the post of ASI, and that’s why I m retiring ASI post.

What are the changes come to the police duty in the past and now ?

So much changes have come today in the duty of Delhi Police. first of all is police behavior with public. Today police make good relation with public.

“Thulla” of How many transfers did you face in 42 yearslong job? Did you suspend ever?

Yes, I was suspended in 1995 for 3 months, and that was very experience of my whole service time

Why were suspend?

Actually, when I was in Mukharjee Nagar police station. One day I was on area round in a street my ‘pagdi’ was involved in a rope and I cut it. That rope had tried to a scoundrel’s house and he saw me when I was cutting rope. He teased to this, that how could i cut the rope. Next day he registered complaint in my police station against me. At this my seniors suspended me without any inquiry about it. At this I was collected all cases which was registered on him and his family. His whole family had so many criminal cases and he was also on bail. I Collected whole queries as my defense in this spent three months. When I presented whole document and information front of my seniors then they canceld my suspension. It was very bad experience of my whole duty period.

Which one is good memory of our job?

So many good movements in my job but the most remunerable movement when I was receiving the reward as a first person of the Delhi police to is the higher service

is there is something that you thing Delhi police should do to improve their image in public?

No, but according to my opinio in Delhi police doesn’t provide facility to their employees If govevrment gives better facilities according to duty the police officers would work better and they will improve their image in public.

What is your plan after retirement?

After retirement I will go back my home town Amritsar in panjab. In my home town I have few fields where i to plane to live as a farmer.

Did you travel in plane?

Yes I have traveled in plane I had gone shri nagar on a official work. Did you get a time to

Yoga fans around world take to their mats for the first International

Yoga Day

8

31 July-15 August 2015

Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day."

illions of yoga enthusiasts have stretched and twisted in unison across India and much of the world to mark the first International Yoga Day. Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi, who had lobbied the UN to declare 21 June as global yoga day, spread his mat among rows of people – including his cabinet members and foreign diplomats – at New Delhi’s main thoroughfare, which had been transformed into one

sprawling exercise area for Sunday’s event. Thousands of people dressed in white sat on yellow mats under the Eiffel Tower, and similar events were held around the world, including in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Beijing and Manila. “We are not only celebrating a day, but we are training the human mind to begin a new era of peace and harmony,” Modi told participants. “This is a programme for the benefit of mankind, for a tension-free world and to spread the message of harmony.”

We are not only celebrating a day, but we are training the human mind to begin a new era of peace and harmony Narendra Modi, Indian prime minister Tens of thousands of schoolchildren, bureaucrats, homemakers, soldiers and ordinary workers took part in the exercise, which was repeated in all Indian state capitals. In Modi’s home state of Gujarat, public yoga events were organised at nearly 30,000 places, state officials said. In Taipei, more than 2,000 participants rolled out mats and performed 108 rounds of sun salutations — a sequence of yoga poses often practised at the beginning of a routine. “They give themselves a piece of time to observe their mind and their heart, which I think in the modern society we need a lot,” said Angela Hsi of her fellow practitioners.

Fazel Shah, an Indian pilot working for a Middle Eastern airline, rushed from the airport on his stopover in Taiwan to join the event. “Isn’t it awesome? I mean, just look at the number of people who are here, embracing it,” he said. He said yoga was probably born in India but belongs anywhere. “If you look from the sky down, you don’t see borders, you don’t see religions, you don’t see nationalities – you just see one group of people. So, I just go down and meet up with them, that’s all.” Many believe that yoga, an ancient physical, meditative and spiritual

Indian officials said more than 35,000 people participated in the New Delhi event, which was also an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest yoga class at a single venue. Guinness representatives said they hired more than 1,500 members of a global accounting firm to count the number of participants at the Delhi venue. The previous title was held by 29,973 students from Gwalior, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, who set a record in November 2005.

Anulom Vilom Pranayama or alternate nostril breathing exercise is one of the main practices of Pranayama. Anulom Vilom Pranayama is mentioned in the yogic texts Hatha Yoga Pradeepika, Gheranda Samhita, Tirumandiram, Siva Samhita, Puranas and in the Upanishads. Anuloma prānāyāma- A form of alternate nostril breath (distinct from nadi shodhana).

This is very similar to Kumbhak > Exhale out slowly with left nostril, by closing right nostril with your right hand thumb. Exhale must be done by left nostril only. This is complete process of Ujjayi. > It should be practiced for 3 times at the start of the process as your practice increases the frequency can be increased an it can be done 11 times Another popular form is ‘Pratiloma Ujjayi’.

Food Habbits Newly married couple should or married couple should take light and balance diet. Diet shout be energy provider and easy to digest. There should avoid junk food. Concentration plays great role during sexual activities. These four steps develop our concentration:

Salutation Seal This simple breathing exercise is a great way to start your practice. Sitting cross-legged on the floor, bring your hands into prayer position. Try to quiet your mind, focusing instead on inhaling and exhaling deeply while keeping your spine nice and straight. Salutation seal really helps bring focus to the rest of your practice….it’s so centering!

Another breathing exercise, practicing alternate nostril breathing for a couple of minutes can really help clear your mind. Like with salutation seal, you’ll sit cross legged. Hold your right hand with your palm in front of your face, and fold down your pointer and middle fingers. Before you inhale, use your thumb to hold your right nostril closed. Hold onto that breath, then release the right nostril and use your ring finger to hold your left nostril closed as you exhale.

people get support from his friends, family members, colleagues. But everyone doesn’t get such help and such people socked. At this situation yoga works as panacea. During this time of stress and uncertainty, people found deep comfort in yoga practice. For anyone else who finds themselves on the unemployed train, here to keep grounded and centered :

Sit in Sukhasan and chant “Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya”. Just thinking about it makes you feel better. Your dedication to the divine spirit, the guru, within me.” Basically, no matter what your mantra means or what language you find it in, its only purpose is to ground you with what’s important and to remind you of what makes you happy and whole.

2.Walking barefoot meditation Walking barefoot outside is immensely beneficial to the human body and condition. And though meditating is often viewed with a highly skeptical lens. Walking mediation is always the best place to start. Just focus on your feet.

3.Build your balance Unemployment is inherently an imbalanced and imperfect state. So adding balance poses to your yoga routine is

practically necessary! Vrikshasana (tree pose) is a classic asan. Think it’s funny to pretend to be a tree, and partly because of the indescribable high I feel during those rare moments of true balance.

4.Keep a journal If anyone is slightly neurotic, unemployment challenges every single norm and definition of success and happiness you’ve ever known. The only way you’re going to come out of it alive is if you find a way to release all that pent-up anxiety and frustration. There’s nothing fun or relaxing about it. But, keeping it all in and just suffering through the rejection and disappointment is only going to lead to disaster. Writing to be incredibly therapeutic. It doesn’t have to be insightful or intellectual writing – just write what you feel. Get on your mat; focus on your practice, and then journal about how it went. Good day? Bad day? No need to judge it, just write it down.

All the different kinds of pranayama also work towards brain improvement. Breathing and relaxation techniques along with meditation can greatly benefit the working of the brain. These techniques help remove the strain, tension and stress and help the brain to process and retain better. Kapalbhati in particular is very effective.

oes this routine sound more or less familiar? It might to many of us housewives for whom each new day is quite like the one that just went by. The daily chores may not change. But what can is our state of mind. The same humdrum can still leave us fresh and enthusiastic if the mind is happy and relaxed. We could still have the energy to do something new and creative with our lives. Here are a few tips which might help housewives as a beginner to the practice: Choose your own convenient time to meditate. It could be early morning just as you wake up or when the kids and husband are away at school and work, or when everyone’s taking an afternoon nap... find out which time slot is ‘available’ during the day and book it as ‘meditation time’. Food can play a vital role in making meditation happen naturally. Include fresh fruits, vegetables, salads, juices and other natural products in your diet. Try munching on an apple instead of a cookie for snack. Besides keeping weight in control, such a diet helps increase prana (life force) in the body, which in turn increases the desire to meditate. You might want to try some of these interesting healthy recipes for a few days. Spend some quality time alone at a nice quiet place. Visit a park or garden. Going to places abound in nature is a good idea, as meditating there adds beauty to the whole experience. If you like chatting online, logging on to Facebook or Twitter to spend time, choose aguided meditation of your choice online and enjoy a deep retreat for 10-20

We anyway keep looking for reasons to meet our neighbours or friends, so let this be one. When you get together and meditate, the effect of meditation is much more. Also, it becomes easier to be regular with the practice when it is done as a group activity daily. Meditation helps us break out of the cycle of emotional highs and lows. You might find yourself dozing off or feeling restless at times when you sit to meditate. Try some chanting, yoga or Nadi Shodhan pranayama, which help you slip easily into meditation. You might also find it easier to meditateion easier after your morning or evening puja. rimarily to lengthen tight muscles but also to strengthen the core, feet and ankles; improve running posture; breathe better and even train the mind. The benefits are literally top to toe. Running is a repetitive movement so particular, specific muscle groups are overtaxed. These include the hamstrings, hip flexors and calves but also the stabilising muscles of the outer hip and thigh, including the often troublesome iliotibial (IT) band. Yoga helps lengthens out these tight spots, speeding up recovery and restoring a natural range of motion. It might therefore help runners to side step common overuse injuries like IT band syndrome or plantar fasciitis. On the strength side, yoga helps boost potential weak spots such as the core, and muscles of the feet and ankles which absorb two to three times the body weight on every stride. This is particularly crucial for road run-

Yoga for

runners what are the best stretches? Yoga can help runners with both strength and flexibility in crucial areas. But which of the many types of yoga are best to keep your body in perfect shape for the road? 22

Are there any particular stretches that are good for stiff legs?

ners pounding the pavements. Trail runners, on the other hand, would benefit from yoga’s balancing postures as these improve proprioception – the awareness of the position of our limbs in space (think of hopping nimbly from rock to rock). Honing the breathing and training the mind

are not prime reasons runners turn to yoga – but they are useful additional benefits for all endurance athletes. For example, the mind has a tendency to turn negative and nasty halfway through a race. Yogic mind tricks can help keep it positive and present. Goodbye, gremlins.

Are there any stretches runners should avoid?

A

nything extreme that the body is not warmed up for that might strain the lower back or knee joints. I don’t teach my runners “camel” for this very reason. Runners don’t need to do poses that make them look like pretzels; they just need to rebalance the body. Its about teasing out muscles rather than nailing a double lotus. Keep it functional

and simple. If a pose doesn’t feel right, trust that instinct. Think low lunges, a bit of downward dog (perhaps “walking the dog” by bending one leg and pushing the opposite heel down) and a nice side bend like triangle. Pigeon pose is fantastic but is a pose to sidle up to slowly with plenty of quad and hip flexor warming up, rather than dropping into cold.

A simple and effort-free way to ease out stiff legs after a hard run is to lie on your back and loop a yoga strap, dressing gown belt or old tie around the sole of the right foot. Straighten the leg to perform a hamstring stretch.

Now add these variations Calf stretch: Shuffle the strap to the ball of the foot and push the heel up (grimacing is optional here). IT band/glute stretch: Take the strap in the left hand and slowly draw the leg across the body. Adductor (inner thigh) stretch: Take the strap in the right hand and open the leg out to the right. Stay in each part of the stretch for 30-60 seconds or 5-10 deep breaths. Repeat on the left leg.

Are there any specific types of yoga that runners might find more enjoyable? Runners, like most athletes, are often drawn either to fast, strong yoga such as Ashtanga or hot yoga, such as Bikram. The type of yoga you choose should depend on the intensity of training. If you are running long or hard three or four times a week I would choose a gentler style such as Hatha or Iygenar (static, long-held poses) as it will allow much-needed time for muscular release and valuable physical and mental downtime. If you are running less or don’t have

23

a race scheduled and need to build strength, a stronger class, such as Ashtanga, will do this. Hot yoga is popular: but watch out for dehydration, and skip any extreme poses that you would struggle to do without the stretch-enhancing benefits of 35C heat. Obviously a specific yoga for runners class is ideal as it will offer more targeted lower body stretches and less plank-type upper body strengthening which can dominate strong, flowing yoga classes.

PRE AND EARLY PREGNANCY CARE

prevent pregnancy enigmas

We quite often ask ourselves, why would I bother? Let him/her approach first. This egoistic attitude may actually break your long-lasting relationship. At last I would conclude by saying that we should always be flexible in our approach to & a successful, strong and long lasting relationship.

regnancy is an important event in every woman’s life. Today’s women are different from bygone generation. She is multitasking, not only home maker she is also professionally dedicated. In such situations motherhood has more challenges. Due to small self-neglect she may have to pay heavy price not only to her health but to her offspring also. Current concept is, intrauterine environment shapes the fetus and its future life. In other words we can say “fetal origin of adult diseases”. So to have a favorable intrauterine milieu she has to start taking care from pre conceptive time. Pre conception and first 3 months of pregnancy are very important to prevent maternal & fetal adverse health. The most important is maternal nutrition, her hemoglobin status, folic acid supplement and blood sugar level. Maternal physiological, biochemical& hormonal status influence the fetal development not of just unborn

baby but health of offspring in adult life also. Folic acid deficiency and abnormal blood sugar lead to congenital structural malformation in baby. Prior supplement with folic acid at least for 3 months before conception and normal blood sugar at the time of conception plays a major role in prevention of malformation. Diabetes control is very essential throughout pregnancy as high blood sugar leads to long term consequences like obesity in infancy, diabetes & cardiovascular disease later in adult life. This is high time when thalassemia screen should be done for everyone before conception, especially if hemoglobin is < 11gm%. Just one small blood test helps to prevent birth of first thalassemic baby. If we know before pregnancy, woman is anemic building up of hemoglobin may be possible with iron supplementation but after conception these iron supplements cannot be prescribed in initial three months of pregnancy. Thyroid staus should be normal during pregnancy which is prudent for fetal brain func-

If woman is having history of previous miscarriages she should always seek advise before conception as many of the investigations to find the cause of abortion can be performed only in non pregnant state and therapies may be initiated accordingly Ultrasound exam is very essential test in each pregnancy. To detect congenital malformations in fetus ultrasound must be done around 18 weeks but one early ultrasonography should also be performed at 11 – 14 weeks. Ultrasound at this time along with certain blood tests helps to screen for chromosomal anomalies especially down syndrome which is so much threat for every family. If screening gives any clue for the possibility of chromosomal abnormalities then definitive test by amniocentesis ( fluid present around the baby is taken for examination ) is done only after 16 weeks. To get everything in time is very essential as in case of abnormal fetus ,termination of pregnancy becomes difficult if time crosses beyond 20 weeks of gestation as after 20 weeks medical termination of pregnancy is not allowed in India.Prevention is better than cure. Things can be corrected only before pregnancy, hence I would advise every women before planning pregnancy consult a gynecologist and seek advice immediately after conception. Preconception and early pregnancy care can help a long way to have good health of mother and baby.

They specifically ask for these dishes and people love them,” says Ishtiyaque. “I plan to set up a chain of Kakori Houses across the country. Several of them would come up in Lucknow as well. I have served the high and the mighty but my desire is to make the food popular amongst the commoners too,” he says.As the conversation was coming to a close one thought of asking him, “Has he something to offer to the vegetarians too?” One thought one had him stumped. Corporate India now has a wonderful opportunity to participate in nation building, and also make business sense out of it. To enable this, the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) at the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India is playing a fundamental role of bringing all the players together - government, corporates, NGOs and beneficiaries/ peoples’ representatives. Nikhil Pant, as Chief Programme Executive (CPE), National Foundation for CSR (NFCSR) at the IICA is today leading IICA’s initiatives as head of Learning & Development (L&D), NFCSR. This helps children to grasp fundamentals in math, science and languages through a learning-by-doing methodology of multiple reinforcements. It also enables and equips underprivileged children from government and NGO schools to become at par, if not better, than others who are more fortunate to buy expensive

tuitions in these subjects. PBL is often provided to such children as an After School Support programme that supplements school teaching-learning. PBL is today helping thousands of school and NGO children across India to do better in studies, and also to become good human beings. A national level Squash Coach, Nikhil has also trained his son Mudit Pant to play for India at the Under 17 and 19 years categories. Through REACHA he remains engaged in developing and promoting Squash as a life-skills programme in various schools and sports clubs across the country. to protect the exposed root of a tooth. The dentist can usually do this procedure in a single office visit by applying an etching solution followed by toothcolored materials -- sometimes composite resins -- directly to the tooth’s surface where needed. Although bonding can last for several years, it is more likely than other types of restorations to chip or become stained or just wear down. In Delhi and NCR, there are many dental care clinics where facilities of cosmetic dentistry are available. You may visit Sector-14, Huda Shopping Complex in Fardiabad. In Gurgaon Shushantlok Phase1. In Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Noida have also many clinics where you can decorate your teeth.

Over time, teeth can become stained or discolored, especially after smoking, taking certain medications, or consuming foods and beverages such as coffee and tea. Using a chemical process, your dentist can bleach your teeth in one of two ways. He can do an in-office procedure, or provide you with a system to use at home. Your dentist can create a custom mouthpiece tray that ensures the right amount of whitening solution reaches your teeth. You may find whitening at home more convenient. But it can take two to four weeks or longer depending on the strength of peroxide used. In-office whitening can take place in one or more 1- to 2-hour visits. Keep in mind, your teeth can become stained again if you continue exposing them to the same substances that originally stained them. Because whitening products are not meant to clean teeth, it is still important to continue practicing daily oral hygiene by brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day.

history

ocated in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh, Ghaziabad is an industrial city that is wellconnected by roads and railways. The city itself houses the headquarters of Ghiazabad district and was originally a part of the Meerut district after the country’s independence until it was finally separated and given its own district status due to some political intervention. Today, it is becoming more and more prosperous and progressive, as evidenced by the number of malls and multiplexes that have sprung up around the city, as well as the widening of roads and infrastructure. However, Ghaziabad has long been a prosperous city whose history dates back to as far as 2500 BC. Much of modern Ghaziabad’s rich history has been uncovered by the extensive excavations and research done in the city’s district. An example of its richness is the village of “KOT”, which is most commonly associated with the emperor Samundra Gupta, famous for performing the Aswamedha Yagya, one of the most important royal rituals of the Vedic religion, after destroying the fort and the princes of the Kot Dynasty. Another piece of history is during 1313, when the place became a massive battleground when the Tammir attacked a fort that was standing in the middle of the city. The massacre that resulted from the attack has long since become famous in Ghaziabadi history. The fort was also where the Mughal King used to go for hunting and pleasure trips. A Baage Ranap serves as a memorial for that period.

Ghaziabad in Mirror of History

Ghaziabad was a famous sarai (inn) during mughal period. Many mughal emperor come here from Delhi-Agara for amusement.

Importance of Hinton River In 1857 to 1858, the city was the scene of fighting during the Indian Mutiny, when Indian soldiers in the Bengal Army that was under the British East India Company mutinied but soon turned into a widespread uprising against British rule in India. The Hindon River, in particular, was the site of several skirmishes between Indian troops and British soldiers in 1857 and today, the graves of the British soldiers and officers can still be seen. Ghaziabad’s place in Northern Indian history is assured by the birth of many freedom fighters who played a role in various revolutions all dedicated to the attainment of freedom for all who have lived – and are still living – there.

multifaceted artist in whom the love and skill of sculpture are inherent. It would not be false to say that he is a ‘master of all trades’. Sculptures, murals, installations are some of the art forms that he excels at. With a diploma in Art appreciation from National Museum, Delhi, this young man from a small town of Deoghar, Jharkhand, came to Delhi to pursue his dream and has not looked back ever since. Strong lines, sharply fluid movements, a feeling of freedom and space is what has been created by the ingeniously balanced figures in joyous dancing compositions and wondering delight is the view’s reaction to Shashi’s work. His compositions are a fusion of fragility and strength, an oxymoron it may seem, but in case of Shashi’s sculptures, true. Sturdy lines, sharp bends which turn without warning, a sense of freedom and space describe his creations. Despite complexity of his compositions, the figures are ingeniously balanced, reflecting the joy and delight that personifies the artist himself. His focus in the present show is man’s innate desire to free himself of earthbound shackles and the longing to do so, combined with the confident leaps of the dancers, who in other forms are symbolized by the imagery of flying birds and butterflies, fully express the same. At present working in the Sculpture Department, Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi, he has displayed his work in a number of solo and group shows in Delhi, Banglore, Mumbai, Jaipur and his native Deoghar, and his work has been acclaimed both by critics and art lovers… and is in collections in India & abroad. Greek Crisis

F Bhupendra Kushwaha

42

ailing to repay a 1.5 billion euro International Monetary Fund(IMF) loan on June 30, Greece has become the first developed country to do so in the history of IMF. Carrying a debt burden of more than 325 billion euros on its shoulders, Athens has been suffering from a deep financial crisis since May 2010. Greece, joining European Union(EU) in 2001 and accepting Euro as its currency, has been doing great with its average growth rate of 4.5 percent till 2007, which was more than the average growth rate of 3.1% of the whole EU. But tables began to turn when in 2008, the financial crisis that hit the United States in 2007, adversely affected the Greek economy and its ability to pay its debt. The reason behind the praiseworthy growth of Greece was its private capital flow and extravagant credit-fueled government spending. Besides this, to accelerate growth, credit condition were made excessively easy. Unfortunately the gov-

31 July-15 August 2015

ernment spent on non-productive projects, such as 2004 Athens Olympics and military needs, specifically on German tanks etc. Greece realized its insolvency in May 2010 and has received two bailouts since then, one in 2010 and the other in 2012. Greece has almost failed to recover its economy in the last five years. International Creditors of Greece- the European Commission, the European Central Bank, and the IMF- want Greece to accept a package of severe economic reforms in return of a third bailout or to exit the eurozone. Leftist Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras called for a referendum on July 5 and wanted the citizens to

say “No” to austerity in return of a probable third bailout. But after umpteenth emergency conferences with the finance ministers of other European nations, PM Tsipras has finally accepted the package of reforms to cut on social spending, increase taxes and other economic liberalization reforms to stay in the EU, thus furthering austerity, which was denied in the referendum. Greece is facing a drastic financial scenario with its banks remaining closed for more than a week( allowing a withdrawal of 120 euros per day). Its banking system is about to collapse if any solution is not found out urgently, and as a consequence of it the government may collapse as well.

What’s for India?

Although India doesn’t face any serious threat from the crisis in Greece, it may face brunt of a crisis in European Union. Over a period of time, many Indian investors have chosen to invest in Europe rather than in India. While doing so, they should understand the consequences of government failure in a developed economy, if not market failure, besides considering the nature of political risk. A great lesson that Indian policy makers can take from Greece is that of importance of responsible economic management. Indian Prime Minster is doing well in maintaining good relations with the regional and world economy and inviting foreign investors to invest in India. But it should be noted that foreign capital always remains foreign and in case of financial crisis in developed economies it can be serious for India too.

Madonna adopted African kids Mercy

and David massaging her feet sparks racism debate f you want to take offence then you can find it anywhere and in the most unlikely things and referrences. But if a 50 year old woman posts a picture with two African kids massaging her feet (even if the kids are hers), it is obviously not going to go unnoticed. This is what happened when popstar Madonna posted a picture of herself lying on the ground and her two adopted African American children Mercy James and David Banda Mwale Ciccone Ritchie smiling and massaging her feet. The picture attracted sharp criticism and sparked a debate about whether the it is an innocent image showing the bonding between the kids and their mother or it is racist. The comments reflect mixed sentiments of fans. This is not the first time that the singer has courted controversy. Madonna had found herself in the eye of a storm earlier as well, when she had posted pictures of African American leaders and activists Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela with black ribbons criss crossing on their faces, allegedly indicating bondage. The pictures were for the promotion of her new album ‘Rebel Heart’ and the cover of the album had a similarly styled picture of Madonna’s face with black ribbons.

2015 BMW X6 facelift launched in India

T

he new BMW X6 facelift comes with a handful of cosmetic upgrades and more powerful engine options equipped with BMW’s fuel saving Eco Pro driving mode. The first generation BMW X6, when launched in 2008, surprised auto critics as it sold a quarter million units in spite of its oddball, Coupelike hunchback exterior design. SUV seekers loved its imposing stance, which made regular motorists give way to the beastly BMW SUV when seen approaching on their rear view mirrors. BMW has now launched a facelifted version of the X6 xDrive40d at Rs 1.15 crore (ex-showroom Delhi and Mumbai) In its latest avatar, BMW has managed to make the proportions of this unique Sports Activity Coupe more appealing by give the exterior styling some minor tweaks. Now, the 2015 BMW X6 facelift gets more

intricate looking headlights, new muscular bumpers, a prominent kidney grille and a stylish alloy wheels. At the back, the designer have installed fancier taillight,

chrome highlights on the new rear bumper, a neatly finished diffuser and a pair of chrome exhaust tips.In India BMW has launched the new X6 facelift in just the xDrive40d variant which comes with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo in-line six, diesel motor pumping out 317PS of maximum power and 630Nm of peak torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that send power to all four wheels.

Hyundai to Launch New MPV and sub-4 metre Compact SUV next year

H

yundai will now focus its energies on developing a MPV and a sub-4 metre compact SUV scheduled to be launched in 2016 With the launch of the new Creta today, Hyundai has finally made an entry in the competitive compact SUV segment. And now

that Hyundai has ensured that it has offerings in the Crossover as well as the Compact SUV class, it is

time for them to focus on the next big segment in the Indian market – MPVs. At the launch of the Creta, Hyundai also revealed that they are working on a MPV as well as another smaller SUV. While details of both these cars are still sketchy, it is safe to assume that like the Creta, both these cars will also be based on the Hatchback Elite i20. As far as the engine is concerned, the MPV is expected to be offered with the same petrol and diesel powerplants as the Creta. It will come with a 1.6-litre petrol unit that makes 123PS and 155Nm, a 1.4-litre diesel that pumps 90PS and 220Nm and a larger 1.6-litre diesel churning 128PS and 259Nm. In fact, when it is launched, the MPV might just be the first diesel automatic in its class. The smaller compact SUV though is expected to get the smaller engines options like the Xcent. It will be offered with a 1.2-litre petrol that makes 81 horses and 114Nm and a 1.1-litre diesel that produces 72PS and 180Nm.
