Message from the Headteacher
New Collaborative Learning Trust
We have finally come to the end of a long and arduous half term. Students and staff have managed to adapt very well to the new way of working and although these have been very testing times, our community has embraced it with positivity and resolve. I am deeply proud of every single individual within this organisation and feel privileged to have worked alongside them. This term has really cemented my belief that we have some of the hardest working children in Rotherham. I would like to personally thank all of you, our parents, for your patience and support through several bubble closures and the need for many of our children to self-isolate. We really do acknowledge and appreciate the undue stress it places upon you as parents to provide alternative childcare arrangements when provided with only a days’ notice. Let me reassure you that whilst your child’s learning is very important to us, so is the health and safety of our community and such decisions are only made having been directed by Public Health England.
As many of you will know, Wingfield Academy has this month joined the New Collaborative Learning Trust. Richard Fletcher; CEO asked that we publish the following on his behalf; we are delighted that Wingfield Academy is joining us, and we are really looking forward to working closely with Wingfield’s staff, students, parents and carers over the months ahead. Our Trust has three colleges in Bradford, Doncaster and Pontefract, with over 5,000 students studying with us, so although we are new to Rotherham, we know Yorkshire well. The process of bringing Wingfield Academy into the Trust started about 24 months ago, and in that two years I have had a lot of opportunity to get to know Phil Davis and the academy’s senior team well, too.
Finally, I would like to invite you all to read our Christmas newsletter and I look forward to seeing you all in the new year, children will return on Monday 4th January 2021.
Contribution Over Lockdown We can all relate to just how hard times have been this year, the following students however, embraced the challenge of working hard during the unprecedented time of being at home and made outstanding ‘contributions over lockdown’. Y10; Jasmine and McKenzie. Y11; Keira and Tegan.
It is important to understand that joining our Trust is not just a paper exercise, but one which will bring concrete benefits to the lives of Wingfield students. Wingfield Academy is no longer a stand-alone school. For the first time, it can access a wealth of support and experience from across the Trust. Our original institution, New College Pontefract, has recently won the TES Sixth Form College of the Year and TES Overall FE Provider of the Year awards. I also want to take a moment to explain the Trust’s core values. Our vision is that: Our colleges and schools will make a significant difference to the lives of young people. As a result, together we will make a positive contribution to social mobility. Having spent a lot of time with Wingfield governors and the senior leadership team already, I know that they share this vision. Being part of our Trust means we want to help make a significant difference to the life chances of Wingfield’s students, by supporting
