Editor’s desk Dear Readers, As printers become more connected they also become more vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Protecting today’s print environment is challenging due to its complexity, which leads to a broader attack surface, and the use of unsafe legacy and outdated technologies. Today the key defence against attacks is authentication and intrusion detection. However, these are not a panacea for print security: rulesbased intrusion detection will not detect all emerging threats, for example. The risk can be mitigated through machine learning algorithms and anomaly detection, which enable threats to be detected in real time. As networked printers and MFPs increasingly become part of the connected world, print manufacturers will have no choice but to participate in mobility ecosystems. Expect to see some leading print vendors starting to leverage a broader and more diverse ecosystem of partners to secure innovative technologies for products, business models and sales channels

In a rapidly evolving technology landscape, major print industry players must be nimble if they are to successfully navigate the next few years. In a traditional industry characterised by long product cycles and deep capital investments, collaboration with high tech companies will be essential to drive innovation.

In recent years, however, some of the toner particulate used to refill these cartridges has seen a greater degree of variability, whether it be size, coarseness or melting point when compared to original equipment manufacturer toner. These variables sometimes cause image defects, such as blurred print and poor toner adhesion. Metrofuser developed its variable fusing technology to allow the company to benchmark the biometric markers of toner remanufactures then work backward to develop solutions. Essentially what we are doing is “tuning” the fuser to match the chemistry of a particular toner remanufacturer. EFI Fiery and Landa S10 Press First to Receive New FOGRA VPS Certification

E

lectronics For Imaging, Inc. announced that its EFI Fiery digital front end technology and the Landa S10 Nanographic Printing Press combined to be the first to receive Fogra’s new expanded FograCert Validation Printing System certification. EFI announced the new FograCert achievement during its annual users’ conference, EFI Connect, in Las Vegas. “This new ‘combi-certification’ extends the established FograCert VPS testing regime beyond single print validation to an evaluation of print run stability stipulated by PSD, ProcessStandard Digital (ISO/TS 15311),” said Andreas Kraushaar of Fogra. “We were pleased to work with both Landa and EFI in conducting this first-of-its-kind certification of ISO compliant Validation Prints for Landa’s S10 press and the press’s EFI Fiery digital front end. Congratulations to both EFI and Landa for the achievement of these Fogra seals.” “The Fogra seal is an important validation of the quality of our Landa S10 Nanographic Printing Press,” said Landa Digital Printing VP of Product Strategy Gilad Tzori. “It also validates our choice of partnering with EFI. While certification based on a single print has been the standard for some time, we believe this new certification, which tests print run stability, is an important validation of the Landa S10 print quality. Our customers can be reassured of consistent quality at Landa digital print speeds.” “By meeting new validation requirements like the FograCert Validation Printing System certification, EFI and Landa are working to ensure that printing companies’ customers can have greater confidence in the print they buy, which ultimately helps create more opportunities for growth in high-volume digital printing,” said John Henze, vice president, sales and marketing, EFI Fiery.ISO 12647-8 originally specified criteria and tolerances for the certification of Validation Printing Systems, as well as for Validation Print Creation in the field. The certification now covers combination printing systems that include a printing system, driving software, color management software, substrate, and a simulated printing condition that more accurately represents today’s print production process.

PDI Large Format Solutions Primed for Strong Growth with Three New EFI VUTEk Superwide-format Printers

E

lectronics For Imaging, Inc. has announced that PDI Large Format Solutions, a subsidiary of Montreal-based PDI Group Inc., is the first business in Canada to install both the next-generation, highend flatbed/roll-fed EFI VUTEk h3 superwide-format LED printer, and the new EFI VUTEk 3r+ roll-to-roll LED printer. The company has also purchased and installed an EFI VUTEk FabriVU 340i soft signage printer. This significant technology upgrade gives PDI Large Format Solutions the platform to drive growth over the next few years. The company purchased all three printers at the 2018 SGIA Expo tradeshow. According to Jamie Barbieri, president of PDI Group Inc., the purchase ensures that the company can consistently deliver high-quality work even as volume needs expand. Plus, with its new LED and soft signage printing capabilities, PDI Large Format can recapture jobs it had outsourced in the past. “The new EFI devices take us to a new level of capacity, quality and efficiency,” said Francis Tellier, president of PDI Large Format Solutions. “We’ve increased our production capacity by 40%, and we have aggressive plans to double our annual growth for the next few years. In addition, the new devices feature significantly lower costs for ink, electricity and maintenance, which helps us maintain our competitiveness in a large market. “When it came time to invest in new technology, we decided to build on our partnership because EFI was able to satisfy all our needs with its technology through one vendor,” he added. “They were able to give us roll-to-roll, rigid, and dye-sublimation technology with one service agreement. No one else could do that.” With production facilities in Laval, a suburb of Montreal, PDI Large Format’s clients include many of the largest names in the Canadian retail space.

Kernow expands range of HP Indigo-compatible substrates

K

ernow Coatings has added a clear polyester product, Kernow Print Lucid, to its range of HP Indigo-compatible synthetic substrates. Applications for the ultra-clear film include special effects commercial print, industrial nameplates and buttons and membrane switches. “Outside of industrial print, we’re seeing designers really jump on this product for layered special effects that add excellent depth to promotion pieces and greetings cards,” said Kernow Coatings product manager for HP Indigo materials Dan Lawellin.Lucid will be followed by a further six products that use the Cornish firm’s proprietary Cobalt coating for Indigo presses during 2019.“Cobalt is taking off really quickly,” said Lawellin. “Optically clear materials have been one of the top requested products.”Cobalt, which was launched at Dscoop 2017, uses a specially developed coating that controls static and ensures high ink adhesion for easier handling during production and more robust finished items. It is available in 105, 130 and 180 micron thicknesses. Sheets are available ex-stock for cutsheet presses, while reels are available to order. Antalis and Premier are the UK merchants for KernowPrint products.

Regarding GST and future plans, Suresh Manohar comments, “We have customer’s pan-India. Overall, we are growing at an annual rate of 20% and we are content with our growth. The GST law has been a good initiative from the government and made our business function better as we operate across the state boundaries. Under GST, we have only one tax and processes gRGot simpler and streamlined, whereas earlier different states used to impose different taxes which were adding to complications. Currently, we have a network of 18 dealers who sell our products pan-India. “My aim is to establish formujet as one of the top provider of digital printing solutions in the country”

Young people are stepping into their father’s shoes and taking over the reins of the family business. There are some who would rather make the journey by themselves. But some people are joining his father’s company has always been his dream; there are several such person who handle father’s business in a better and highly managed way. Piyush Ruiwale is no exception, he shares his experiences and his mission and vision for formujet. press, ID cards and dragon sheets, PVC inkjet sheets, etc. Huge range of products and to maintain inventory and quality is humongous asks.

I

ndigo Prints Smart Pvt Ltd led by Shashank Ruiwale is one of the prominent manufacturers, suppliers, exporters, importers and traders of laser toner Cartridges, Inkjet printer inks, industrial inkjet printing products, large format inks & cartridges under its brand name formujet. Today, Piyush Ruiwale (S/o Shashank Ruiwale) is increasing taking over the responsibilities of managing the company, while his father still guides the overall strategy of the organization. Piyush Ruiwale comments, “The financial year 2018-2019 has been a fantastic period for the Imaging industry, the Industry seems to be growing at a solid rate year on year, more people have now understood the potential of the inkjet segment and have started focusing on it. On the other side, in segments like the laser toner cartridge, it seems supply exceeds demand. For the Year FY 2019-20, I can sense more competition in the toner cartridge space. A wild price war has been raging in this area and the only outcome obtained is depreciation in the quality standards. As a young denizen in the imaging industry, I am puzzled why our consumers prefer investing in low quality products for saving few bucks rather than investing in high-quality products which benefits them in the long run. We all need to work to educate the users and the market in this regard.” formujet’s product range also includes Continuous Ink Supply System (CISS), industrial inkjet printing products,CISS inks, sublimation inks, formujet photo inks, laserjet toner powders, toner cartridges for printers and copiers, refillable cartridges, compatible inkjet cartridges, ink tank System, jumbo cartridges, large format printers inks, large format printer cartridges, vacuum toner cleaning machines, inkjet cartridge refilling machine, inkjet accessory kit, laserjet component tray, un-inked fabric rolls, dot matrix ribbon ink, dot matrix ribbon cassettes, OPC drums, doctor blade, Sublimation heat 32

February 2019

Talking about the latest government initiatives, Piyush comments, “I believe, that the ‘Make in India’ project can help organize the Imaging industry. The recent regulations like GST, E-way Bills, SME & MSME, etc have made for evading tax difficult and their strict implementation will help organize the imaging industry and ensure smooth functioning. Bringing the ‘One Nation One Tax’ system in the form of GST is a great idea; it has made tax compliances quite easy and less complicated. The government should incentivise ‘Remanufacturing,’ which will boost the recycling and help to save the environment.” Other merits of formujet include well-developed warehouse, budget-friendly prices, timely deliveries and a wide distribution network. formujet is supported by a state-of-the-art R&D and sales departments manned by qualified, well-trained and experienced professionals to provide the latest technology products and services to the partners and then to the end users. Regarding his future plans, Piyush adds, “From our company’s point view, I am committed to work for the growth of ‘formujet’ brand and I love to take on challenges that come in our way. Increasing responsibilities makes us work hard, struggle more, but only to provide the ‘Ultimate Experience and Satisfaction’ to our customers. While dealing with challenges, I have always believe, ‘Teamwork is the secret that helps common individuals achieve uncommon results.’ Working together not only helps to deal with challenging tasks but also helps to reach new levels. Hence, we at Indigo, welcome all challenges with open arms! We have been focusing on the Laser Copier market and have introduced mono lasers & colour laser toners for a variety of Printer Models. Indigo has a wide range of products for different kinds of consumers; special efforts are being put to make all our products available with our channel Partners & distributors. There are rapid innovations taking place in the digital printing Industry opening up new possibilities into the market. The youth should develop the capabilities to exploit the new opportunities. Our aim is to make formujet one of the leading digital printing solution providers in the country in future. With focus on establishing strong dealer network, across country, we invite new dealers from all parts of the country to join the ‘Indigo Family’ and reap the benefits that come along.”

“We aim to challenge and be a part of the upcoming and growing market” ProDot is the brand name of Datalink Industrial Corporation based out of New Delhi. ProDot, with branch offices spread across the nation, for the past three decades, has been engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of a wide range of printer consumables and IT peripherals across different regions of India. In the recent years, ProDot witnessed a remarkable growth in the industry. ProDot’s wide range of products includes DMP and LaserJet compatible cartridges, refilling aids, computer peripherals, computer accessories, laptop accessories, photo papers and antivirus products. ProDot staff puts continuous efforts to expand their product-line in the best possible manner. ProDot’s products are specially designed to give value to the customers. In an interaction with Aarushi Rajpal, Director, ProDot about the company’s initiatives and future initiatives.

What are the latest trends in print consumable market and what is ProDot’s focus in the changing market scenario. The print consumable market has really evolved over the years. There was a time when dot matrix ribbons were the only way we knew how to print. With time though, inkjet inks started picking up. However, now I feel, ink tank printers are the present. With IDC’s (International Data Corporation) reports too stating ink tank printers drive volumes in major 50 cities in India, my belief is just reinforced. The market has become more receptive and responsive towards ink tanks. With this changing market scenario, we at ProDot are someway trying to manufacture inks by ourselves. Some R&D is going on to develop inks that meet and exceed the international benchmarks and compete with the OEM inks and we are slowly getting there. We aim to challenge and be a part of the upcoming and growing market.

Could you describe the brief journey about ProDot?

So far the journey at ProDot has been beautiful. Starting a humble beginning from 100 square feet factory in my house to 50,000 square feet factory in the nature’s basket at Dehradun, it’s just been splendid. The journey so far has been full of trust, collaboration, commitment, excitement and life. Till today, I come with the same enthusiasm as that when I began my work and I feel that romance towards my work would never end. Sometimes, I wonder, this journey has been good, that’s why it’s been successful or it’s been successful, that’s why it’s been good!

Apart from print consumables, how you performed in computer peripherals?

Superb and far more than expected! We are quite hopeful that like our imaging products have made their own mark and identity in this industry, our computer peripherals would also follow their steps and leave a mark behind. 34

February 2019

What new products do you plan to add to your portfolio in the immediate future?

Our plan is to add more accessories in the current range and explore the field of CCTV cameras and security. This new vertical of surveillance sounds exciting, let’s see what happens in the future.

Today, in the cut-throat competition, services are important. What kind of service support are you providing?

Service is always important and customer is the king. To service better, all our products bear the tag of replacement and warranty and they can be readily replaced if found defective under normal use. We have taken care of replacement regionally too with giving our big distributors at some 50+ locations some buffer stock to react promptly. Customers can replace their products with repaired products immediately and wouldn’t have to wait and worry about it. After all, ProDot is their trusted IT Partner!

What new initiatives are you taking to energise your channel eco-system in light of changing trends?

A channel grows and works better if people in it function like family. To boost bonding and understanding among our Partners, we organised Dubai Meet where 250 people across pan India flew from different locations to a common destination, Dubai. For the five days that we were all together, it was a blast from enjoying the Desert Safari to Dhow Cruise to Dubai Underwater Zoo & Aquarium to seeing the iconic Burj Khalifa! It was purely a fun trip aimed to strengthen and motivate the channel. It felt family-like throughout because it was the ProDot family together!

Present growth rate and where you want to be in the coming five years?

Our current growth rate would be of around 20-25%. With emerging competition, GST and other hurdles, we hope to maintain it fairly.
