L atinos and H ealth Coverage: Louisiana by the Numbers L atinos1 are more likely to be uninsured than any other racial or ethnic group in the U.S. +RZHYHU +LVSDQLF IDPLOLHVœ DFFHVV WR KHDOWK LQVXUDQFH YDULHV E\ VWDWH (see F igure 1). In Louisiana: ™ L atinos have inadequate access to the cur rent health coverage system. In 2008, only about two-fifths (42.4%) of all Latinos living in Louisiana had employersponsored health insurance, and about one-ninth (11.4%) were covered by Medicaid RU WKH &KLOGUHQœV Health Insurance Program.2 ™ As a result, L atino families are at risk for uninsurance. That year, more than one in three (37.4%) of all Latinos in Louisiana were uninsured, and more than one in four (28.8%) Latino children under age 18 had no form of health coverage.3 ™ L atinos are over represented among the uninsured. Although Hispanics made up 3.1% of the total state population in 2008, they represented 5.7% of LouisianaœV uninsured.4
