L atinos and H ealth Coverage: Idaho by the Numbers L atinos1 are more likely to be uninsured than any other racial or ethnic group in the U.S. +RZHYHU +LVSDQLF IDPLOLHVœ DFFHVV WR KHDOWK LQVXUDQFH YDULHV E\ VWDWH (see F igure 1). In Idaho: ™ L atinos have inadequate access to the cur rent health coverage system. In 2008, only two-fifths (40.1%) of all Latinos living in Idaho had employer-sponsored health insurance, and one-fifth (20.1%) ZHUH FRYHUHG E\ 0HGLFDLG RU WKH &KLOGUHQœV +HDOWK Insurance Program.2 ™ As a result, L atino families are at risk for uninsurance. That year, more than one in three (34.9%) Latinos in Idaho were uninsured, and more than one in five (22%) Latino children under age 18 had no form of health coverage.3 ™ L atinos are over represented among the uninsured. Although Hispanics made up one-tenth (10%) of the total state population in 2008, they represented more than onefifth (22.4%) of IdahoœV uninsured.4
