L atinos and H ealth Coverage: Colorado by the Numbers L atinos1 are more likely to be uninsured than any other racial or ethnic group in the U.S. +RZHYHU +LVSDQLF IDPLOLHVœ DFFHVV WR KHDOWK LQVXUDQFH YDULHV E\ VWDWH (see F igure 1). In Colorado: ™ L atinos have inadequate access to the cur rent health coverage system. In 2008, only about two-fifths (43.2%) of all Latinos living in Colorado had employersponsored health insurance, and about one-fifth (19.1%) were covered by Medicaid or WKH &KLOGUHQœV +HDOth Insurance Program.2 ™ As a result, L atino families are at risk for uninsurance. That year, nearly one in three (32%) Latinos in Colorado were uninsured, and more than one in five (22.7%) Latino children under age 18 had no form of health coverage.3 ™ L atinos are over represented among the uninsured. Although Hispanics made up more than one-sixth (17.5%) of the total state population in 2008, they represented more than one-third (35.2%) of ColoradoœV uninsured.4
