Sister Bingo, oh, the time has come. It’s been a minute since the Eureka Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have held one of their all-too-fun, this-ain’t-your-grandma’s-bingo fundraisers. Lucky for us, there are still tickets left for David Sedaris, who’s coming back to Arcata on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Van Duzer Theatre ($66, $15 HSU students). The author of bestsellers Me Talk Pretty One Day, Naked and Calypso, as well as frequent contributor to NPR’s This American Life and The New Yorker, is one of the freshest, funniest voices today.

Also coming to the Van Duzer Theatre this week is the spectacular theater/dance performance Grupo Corpo: Brazilian Dance on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. ($66, $25 HSU). Athletic and dynamic with music and staging to match. This contemporary Afro-Brazilian dance troupe is a treat for all the senses.

The day of love is upon us. Get your Valentine’s Day plans in order, friends. Whether you’re single and ready to mingle or partnered and loving it, there are some sweet Valentine’s Day events happening in our little slice of heaven sure to make Feb. 14 special. Grab your partner and head to the Arcata Veterans Hall for the Folklife Society’s Valentine’s Day Barn Dance, Feb. 14 from 7 to 10 p.m. ($10, $5 seniors/ Humboldt Folklife Society members/veterans/students/ Arcata Playhouse members). Partnerless? Come anyway. Dance like you’re wearing two left boots? No worries. Caller Lyndsey Battle will teach each dance in an easy, breezy manner and get you ready to swing and shout to music by the Striped Pig Stringband. This is a fun, family-friendly event. Beer and refreshments available for purchase. How about wine, dinner and dancing in a beautiful outdoor setting? Say, a winery? The romance cup runneth over. Make your reservations now (this is an advance ticket event) for the Valentine’s Day Dinner and Dance, Friday, Feb. 14 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Fieldbrook Winery ($50 per person, includes full buffet service featuring local chef Brett Shuler and nonalcoholic drinks, plus a stemmed glass to take home).
