Tuesday afternoon representatives from the City of Ottawa, the Ministry of Environment (MOE), Golder Associates, Osgoode Ward Coun. Doug Thompson and Lynnwood Gardens Trailer Park met to hammer out solutions to the water issues plaguing the mobile home park. Representatives from Lisa MacLeod's office, MPP for Nepean-Carleton, and Killam's Mike Anderson couldn't make it due to the weather. The closed-door meeting was the result of a November meeting of the Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee (ARAC) where Thompson’s motion to find a solution was passed unanimously. ARAC then assigned city rural officer Derrick Moodie with the task of finding options and reporting them to ARAC. But recent developments have thrown a cloud over what would have been a completely hopeful meeting: Killam Properties, the company that owns the park, is taking legal action against seven of the residents who haven’t paid for ongoing wa-
ter tests at the park. That is because “the end product isn’t worth anything,” said resident Nick Fleming prior to the meeting. “The lawsuits are really more of … I don’t want to classify it as a sideshow … it’s more of a businessrelated issue that Killam Properties are required to do testing of water and they are allowed to charge back to the tenants,” said Thompson after the meeting. “But because of the fact that the water is in such poor condition that some people have said ‘this is crazy’. I think that’s a side issue.” Fleming also confirmed that people involved in the Walkerton water cases have become increasing interested and involved in Lynnwood’s situation. “They’ve convened a meeting for (Wednesday) night somewhere in Eastern Ontario to go over our case,” he said. “I’m not an expert on the water regulations - you have to be somewhat more astute than Einstein to interpret them anyway.”
