Cheers and applause erupted in the cramped quarters of Metcalfe’s former town hall as the Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee (ARAC) voted unanimously to find a solution to the ongoing water problems in Lynnwood Gardens Trailer Park. The motion, co-authored by Osgoode Ward Coun. Doug Thompson and senior city counsel Tim Marc, states: “Be it therefore resolved that RIAC (Rural Issues Advisory Committee) wishes to have ARAC consider at an earliest opportunity to find a resolution to provisions of usable drinking water and the Planning and Environment Committee (PEC) and Legal Department contribute their best knowledge to the Lynnwood Trailer Park and present a solution to ARAC.” Admittedly, no one yet knows what exactly that solution is, but seemingly everyone is now on the same page. ARAC members were privy to seeing the sludge passing as water that comes out of the taps in Lyn-

nwood. Barrhaven Coun. Jan Harder expressed her shock as she viewed the visibly dirty water for the first time. Bruce Webster, president of the Rural Council of Ottawa Carleton (RCOC), brought in a jar of water to show ARAC members. He said he was “very encouraged” by the fact that there seems to be forward movement on the issue now. “RCOC thought it pertinent to bring it to RIAC’s attention … and they voted unanimously to bring it to ARAC,” said Webster, holding the jar of water aloft for all to see. “Any and every person who has visited the (park) … said the water is not usable.” Nepean-Carleton MPP Lisa MacLeod, who has been working closely with Thompson and organizations like the Nepean, Rideau, Osgoode Community Resource Centre (NROCRC) to find a solution, also spoke to the ARAC members, urging everyone to put their support behind Thompson.
