This Chamber publication will provide you with details on member businesses as well as area information. The NCHC Chamber of Commerce is proud of the diverse membership base from small mom and pop dining to large nationally recognized brands. Each has their own unique and appreciated forte.

Parks and Trails

Henry County has several parks that offer a wide variety of activities, both leisure and competitive. Here’s a list of the largest parks in the county, and what each has to offer.

Arts Park Office: Henry County Art Center, 218 S. 15th Street, New Castle. 529-2634 Lush, well-maintained grounds adjoining the Art Center are open to the public for a stroll and look at the foliage. A great site for weddings, the grounds are maintained by volunteers. The Arts Park is home to several free concerts each summer.

Memorial Park Office: 2221 N. Memorial Drive, New Castle 5291004 The W.G. Smith Building, located near the center of the park, is used for used for weddings and receptions, reunions, birthday and meeting spaces.

The lower level of the W.G. Smith Building is now a veterans museum.

Memorial Park also has facilities used for the annual Henry County 4-H Fair.

The livestock barn and show arena are located northwest of the Smith One of the many cabins available to rent at Memorial Park.

Whippet racing also takes place at the park. A familiar landmark, the Doughboy, a statue of a World War I American Soldier, is now located outside the bottom of the W.G. Smith Building, surrounded by flags and commemorative bricks.

Castle’s northeast side. The park is known for the softball diamonds and tournaments played there. The park features picnic areas and walking trails as well as a multiacre nature preserve featuring a large variety of flora. An adjacent football field is home to New Castle’s Little League football games. Osborne Park also has an assortment of playground equipment and a large shelter house.

The Henry County Saddle Club, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization working to improve the future for horses, horse owners and the community. The mission of the Henry County Saddle Club is to promote and educate the members of the Henry County Saddle Club in the care, appreciation and showing of light horses. The saddle club will provide opportunity and support to the 4-H Horse and Pony Club and the community through the fostering of relationships with other horse clubs and associations through the care and improvements to the facility and grounds.

Baker Park New Castle Parks Superintendent is Mike Bergum. 5297605 Baker Park is located on S. Main Street on New Castle’s south side. The park is a very popular place for walkers and joggers to exercise, since the perimeter of the park equals approximately one mile. Baker Park has playgrounds, including the F.U.N. playground built by local volunteers in the late 1990s. It has several basketball courts, a tennis court, a pickleball court, a volleyball court, an area for playing shuffleboard and several horseshoe pits.

The city’s most popular facility is the Aquatics Center at Baker Park, which opens on Memorial Day weekend each year.

New Castle Parks Superintendent is Mike Bergum. 5297605 Located next to the basketball courts, across from Baker Park, the Action Sports Park features 13,000 square feet with a versatile design, including an open bowl and flow area, wedding cake steps, pool coping, doorway, multiple street zones with rails and steps, an offset tranny/bank zone, two mosaics and decorative railing that pays homage to New Castle native and artist Robert Indiana.

walking trails within the park as well as a nature trail. Bird watching is a popular activity at the park. Summit Lake State Park also offers swimming from Memorial Day through Labor Day and beach volleyball.

Westwood Park 1900 S. 275 W., New Castle 987-7555 Westwood Park is one of Henry County’s premier fishing spots. The park allows boating, but rental boats are not available. There are numerous trails within the park, available for horse backing or for a hike through the woods.

The park has a playground, a shelter house, an area for camping and a large lake.

Dietrich Park 341 Locust St., Middletown Dietrich Park, located on Fall Creek in Middletown just off Raider Road, has several baseball and softball diamonds for individuals of all ages. The park has picnic facilities, a paved walking path and a playground area. Fishing is allowed in Fall Creek. There is a community building in the park as well as basketball and tennis courts.

Sunset Park 206 S. Hill Ave., Knightstown 345-5977 Sunset Park is located just south of U.S. 40 on the west side of Knightstown. It has two baseball diamonds, one for Babe Ruth and the other for the Optimist League. The playground is for children of all ages. There are three open shelters with barbecue pits and a large enclosed shelter house available for rent. Other features include a splash pad, fishing and courts for volleyball and basketball. Memorial Park Trails Six trails within the park. The Reading Trail is an activity trail for youth to read as they exercise. The six trails total 3 miles. Memorial Park is located on State Road 3 north side of New Castle.

National Road Heritage Trail 7+ miles in two sections completed in Henry County. 3 miles in Lewisville and 4 miles in Raysville. Majority of trail surface is crushed limestone. www.hchcin.org School Park Walking Path 0.2 mile in length. Located in Middletown. Hard trail surface.

Summit Lake State Park Four trails to choose from. 1-Paririe Trail is 2 miles in length. 2-Campground Trail is 1.25 miles in length.

A Well-Rounded Education

Students from all over Henry County gathered in the New Castle Fieldhouse last fall to hear from motivational speaker Nick Vujicic.

Henry County offers quality education opportunities for residents, from the youngest to senior adults. Great pride is taken in providing top-notch academic facilities at all levels.

Five distinct school corporations offer public education to Henry County young people.

The schools offer small class sizes with above-average student achievement levels and graduation rates.

Dedicated teachers, many with master’s degrees, present a variety of courses designed to meet student needs. Opportunities in sports, music, art, drama and many vocational areas work together with academics to give a well-rounded education.

Custom workforce education is offered through local locations of Ivy Tech Community College, the New Castle Career Center and Henry County WorkOne.

New Castle Career Center High school juniors and seniors can choose from 17 programs at New Castle Career Center. The goal is to help students prepare for their careers. Whether student choose to go directly to college from high school, work, the military, an apprenticeship or any combination of those, they will gain the experience to make informed career decision and the skills and knowledge needed to become successful.

Programs include broadcasting, building trades, technology, culinary arts, dental careers, education careers, EMT and public safety, engineering careers, facility maintenance, graphic design, health science education, marketing, sports and entertainment, veterinary science as well as welding.

Danielson Center Health Science and Public Safety Academy Danielson Center Health Science and Public Safety Academy was built entirely from $1.25 million in private sector donations and brings higher education to the area.

Collaboration with local school districts make it possible for high school students in Henry County to earn college credits while still in high school, saving them time and money if they pursue post-secondary education.

The Danielson Center Health Science and Public Safety Academy is now an extension of the New Castle Career Center.

If you want a bachelor’s degree, you can attend Ivy Tech then transfer to a four-year school, saving upward of $10,000.

Ground was broken for a New Castle campus in 2012 at 3335 S. Memorial Drive. The 14,000 square foot structure was purchased by the Henry County Commissioners. The county leases the building to Ivy Tech.

Meeting Facilities Available: Benefits include complimentary use of the Chamber’s Conference rooms. The large conference room is great for staff training and presentations. It is equipped with several long tables and chairs, a white board and holds up to 25 people. The Chamber Board room provides an intimate setting for conducting off site interview or small group meetings. This conference room is appointed with a board room table and comfortable board chairs, a refrigerator and coffee maker, several white boards. It holds 8. LCD projectors and Chamber WiFi are available if requested.

Full Time Staff: Experienced, well qualified staff to help with your needs and questions. Let us help by reviewing your business marketing plan, proofreading your fliers and brochures, or assisting with the posting of job openings on our website.

Mailing List: All members have access to our Chamber membership list.

Bulk Rate Postal Permit: The Chamber’s bulk rate postal permit is available to members for mailings of 200+ pieces.

This offers a considerable savings with reduced postage rates and eliminates the $300 annual permit fee.

Insurance: Several Chamber member insurance companies offer general, workman’s comp, and health insurance packages to members only, often at a reduced rate.

New Business Contacts: Make new contacts and create opportunities to expand your business by meeting new potential customers through Chamber events, committee involvement, ribbon cuttings, publications and mailings.

Identification: Business members receive a window decal identifying them as an active member of Henry County’s most active and productive business organization. New members and their businesses are introduced at Chamber events and in the eblast and Chamber Talk / The Courier Times monthly feature page.

State Rep. Tom Saunders (R-Lewisville) joins Knightstown American Legion members in filling care packages to donate for veterans in need on Feb. 1 at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. In 2019, there was a 6 percent increase in homelessness among Indiana veterans.

The Indiana House of Representatives partnered with the American Legion, Department of Indiana to collect more than 7,000 hygiene and food items for care packages to distribute to homeless Hoosier veterans.
