On International Youth Day in August, the NCEASL's Youth Evangelical Alliance (YEA) launched a Decade of Holistic Discipleship, a commitment and a call to the Sri Lankan church to “…make disciples of all nations…” and help them obey everything that Jesus has commanded.

The YEA hosted a webinar that shed light on what it takes to be a Christian influencer in this decade, and how young people can create an impact while maintaining their Christian values and identity. The programme was held via Zoom, featuring speakers Keba Jeremiah, renowned musician and producer and Isaac D., a leading Christian influencer and music producer. 02 | ISSUE THREE

The YEA launched Flip it, a bi-monthly magazine written by youth for youth. This edition hopes to inspire Christian youth to follow Jesus into the nation, to seek transformation at every level of society and challenge them to live out their faith.

The YEA launched its Instagram page which explores truth through design, vibrantly bringing forth simple biblical truths into a modern, local, and young context.

FOLLOW UP WITH PASTORS’ FELLOWSHIPS The Missions met up with the Pastors’ Fellowships of Monaragala, Anuradhapura and Chilaw and encouraged them to face p o s t C OV I D -1 9 c h a l l e n g e s w h i l s t conducting a session on discipleship. Copies of the ‘Survival Manual in Times o f C r i s i s ’ ( i n S i n h a l a a n d Ta m i l ) w e re a l s o d i s t r i b u t e d a m o n g t h e fe l l o w s h i p s .

Standing Strong Through the Storm (SSTS) The Missions hosted a 3 day programme for 60 pastors and church leaders from the Nittambuwa Pastors' Fellowship. This programme highlighted different teachings specifically dealing with their role as Christians in the midst of challenges. They were encouraged to persevere through the hardships and obstacles they face in their ministry life.

The Puttalam Pastors’ Fellowship met in August with a gathering of 26 pastors. The Missions team distributed 50 Bibles amongst them and also supported them with financial grants.

The ADT represented at the global CDC webinar based on the faith community and COVID-19

KINGDOM BASED VALUES IN BUSINESS The ADT conducted a training for 12 entrepreneurs on the 03rd of August at Gospel Tabernacle. The facilitators held sessions on finance management as well as addressed the topic of good biblical ethics in running a business. The purpose of this programme was to ensure that business is conducted in accordance with biblical principles. The Centres for Disease Control (CDC), U.S., invited the Alliance Development Trust (ADT) team to speak at a webinar on COVID-19. The team presented on how ‘Faith Leaders Collaborate with the Sri Lankan Government on COVID-19 and Protection of Children’. The report was co-authored by the ADT team, together with Dr. Wijesinghe from the Ministry of Health. Highlighted in the report was the urgency of a comprehensive approach which focuses on the virus, violence, hunger and prevention - all essential areas which are also being adopted in Sri Lanka.

Master Class The ADT conducted a master class based on Microsoft Excel Pivot Tables in July. This webinar saw the participation of over 300 individuals from 8 countries, representing over 60 organisations. 93% of the participants gave positive feedback on the session.

LIVELIHOODS The Business Development Unit (BDU) of the ADT hosted a home-gardening programme for 5 participants in Mannar. This was initiated with the aim of creating job opportunities for people with disabilities in the area.

THE SANCTUARY HOUSE In September, the Sanctuary House hosted 40 participants from Campus Crusade and 25 MBA students from UWE/Bristol College to a one day Experiential Learning Leadership programme partnered with Results Training Company.

‘Act Now’ carried out a campaign highlighting the main changes in the Constitution before and after the introduction of the 19th amendment. The campaign was aimed at emphasizing the need and the important elements of the 19th amendment within the Constitution. ISSUE THREE| 05


Through the ‘Act Now’ initiative a two day workshop was based on ‘Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) and Digital Citizenship’. This was conducted in Nuwara Eliya in September with a participation of 27 youth.

Social Media Initiatives

The Digital Citizen Instagram page featured a post on privacy improvement, using encryption. @digitalcitizen_sl

Paan Kade featured a post on racism, drawing on the events of Black July and highlighted the presence of racial tension in Sri Lanka even today.

COLOURISM:

Prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group.

Paan Kade featured a series of posts on ‘colourism’ in Sri Lanka and the ongoing struggles against it in the years past. This series included stories of many advocates against ‘colourism’, the struggles they go through or went through and how they have fought against colourism in their own professional fields. @paankade For private circulation only
