NCC’s Day of Service: A Campus Ready to Give Back

Nassau Community College held its 14th Annual Day of Service. This is a vibrant campus wide event that brings together students, staff, and community organizations. The MPR was filled with organizations that have open opportunities for volunteering, community outreach, and collective action. From food drives to social media manager positions the Day of Service event had something for everyone and anyone that was looking to give back to their community, reinforcing NCC’s commitment to creating a culture of empathy, kindness, and social responsibility.

The Day of Service had several interactive stations designed to make giving back both engaging and impactful. There were stations where attendees could contribute money to charities, books for childrens, donate food to the NEST, and write notes of encouragement for those in need. With colorful paint and stickers students made a display of positive messages.

“In the Quiet”

The ground softens, whispers of green pushing through a breath the earth takes.

Petals open, slow and gentle, as though each one is savoring the warmth, the quiet.

A stream laughs its way around the roots, chasing sunlight on its skin.

Birdsong breaks the stillness nothing urgent, just present, a moment to rest in. The world unfolds again, and in the calm, we too are allowed to bloom.

"God, Guns & Gasoline"

Gather 'round the sacred grill, Praise be to Freedom, fries, and fill Egos high and facts on mute, Sing under the weight of a billionaires boot.

The Earth is boiling? Just a phase. Let Jesus sort out melting days. They hoard their gold, quote Ayn Rand lore, While asking God to bless their war.

Global warming? It’s a hoax, A plot to take away our smokes

Let’s drill the oil, the coal, the gas, Who cares if oceans start to pass?

Jim Crow on the corner still, And they say its just another day to grill They forgot who built the future, blood and sweat, Now it’s all coming down fast, the pace is set.

History’s a tale we’ve spun, The truth erased, the blame undone. If knowledge dares to shake the throne, Keep them ignorant, divided, alone

Let’s gut the earth and sell the scraps, Decision rooms devoid of thought, yet full of claps Scream freedom loud, then build a wall, Where does this leave us all?

People strangely full of spite Destroying us all, but hey, you got rid of woke, right?
