Obtain Initial Licensure in General or Adapted Curriculum Do you have a passion for teaching special education, helping students, and working with colleagues who share your vision? If this sounds like you, then consider becoming a part of a collaborative teacher preparation partnership program between North Carolina Central University School of Education (NCCU-SOE) and Durham Public Schools (DPS).
This cohort teacher preparation model will prepare highly qualified and effective practitioners who have specialized in evidence-based knowledge and skills, and experiences to positively impact the performance of students with disabilities, including those with persistent and severe learning or behavioral problems and those who are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

About the Program The General Curriculum: Initial licensure 30-36 hour program
will prepare practitioners to provide culturally responsive strategies to meet the educational goals of K-12 students with disabilities in the general classroom settings. The Adapted Curriculum: Initial licensure 30 hour program will
prepare highly qualified practitioners to apply culturally responsive strategies to meet the educational goals of K-12 students with disabilities, including those with persistent and severe learning or behavioral problems that need the most intensive individualized support in a variety of settings.
