AT NAZARETH ACADEMY BE YOU 2022-2023

Mr. Moore, Theology Teacher

The word ‘family’ is used a lot to describe high school communities, but Nazareth truly embodies and personifies what family is all about.

YOU ARE BLESSED WITH A COLLECTION OF STRENGTHS, HOPES, OPINIONS AND QUESTIONS. NAZARETH ACADEMY IS THE STEPPING STONE WHERE YOU CAN DEVELOP THESE BLESSINGS AND SHAPE YOUR WORLD INTO SOMETHING ENTIRELY YOU.

People at Nazareth have a strong sense of love and belonging because they are loved and welcomed as members of a family. This connection makes people feel seen, heard, and valued.”

IT ALL STARTS WHEN YOU BECOME A ROADRUNNER

Integrating Gospel values into the Nazareth Academy curriculum is an essential aspect of the Nazareth high school experience. Each student is provided with the opportunities necessary to become a mature Christian person. In addition to the curriculum, liturgical and personal prayer, retreat participation and service opportunities all contribute to the continued development of one’s faith.

FAITH & MINISTRY

CAMPUS MINISTRY

Mrs. Janet Rausch ‘91, Campus Minister

All Nazareth students are encouraged to become involved in the Service Team, which is a student-led organization with an executive committee and co-chairs for each committee. TEAM COMMITTEES Service: Caring Place for Kids/tutoring & mentoring; F.I.S.H. (Friends in Service and Hospitality)/Aspire; Food Pantries Liturgical Prep & Eucharistic Ministers Living the CSJ Mission Retreat Planning Drives - Thanksgiving, Christmas and Lent

The Campus Ministry Department empowers students in the areas of service, retreat and prayer. Throughout the school year students plan, conduct and generously support Thanksgiving, Christmas and Lenten collections. Students may also participate in a variety of service opportunities. Day retreats are offered at the freshman and sophomore level. Juniors are required to attend an overnight retreat at LaSalle Manor Christian Brothers Retreat Center in Plano, IL. Seniors may attend the nationally recognized Kairos Retreat. All-school liturgies provide celebrations of Holy Days of Obligation, as well as major school events throughout the year. Students assist with planning and participate in all Masses and prayer experiences. During their junior year, students may also choose to be trained as Eucharistic Ministers.

Nazareth Academy students live our pillar of unity as a reflection of the CSJ charism ‘that all may be one.’ By celebrating our faith through service, worship, and retreats, Nazareth students build relationships with our dear neighbors, become agents of inclusivity and hospitality, and live as Christ taught us to live, as servant leaders.”

ATHLETICS

Will Beargie ‘23, Clarendon Hills Middle

The best part of football is the bonds you make while playing. You start as strangers working hard everyday to get better, then quickly you form a bond that lasts long after the season is over. The coaches always push you to your best and the teammates are always there if you need a hand, or to celebrate your victories. There is nothing like the Friday Night Lights and seeing your school cheering you on.”

Nazareth is committed to athletic and academic excellence while integrating learning and competition with Christian values and faith. While we take great pride in the continued success of our student-athletes at the conference, regional and state levels, we always keep an eye on the bigger picture. Win and loss records mean nothing if our athletic programs are not helping to develop more respectful, kind, faith-filled and service-oriented student-athletes. This process is best accomplished within the Nazareth framework of Scholarship, Service, Spirit and Unity.

The use of iPads provides enhanced opportunities for learning, while the savings in book costs more than make up for the purchase of the device over four years. Once a student registers an iPad, he or she receives access to Nazareth’s secure and protected WiFi network throughout the school.
