CORE SUBJECT – TWO SEMESTERS Learning Focus Learning mathematics creates opportunities for and enriches the lives of all Australians. It develops the numeracy capabilities that all students need in their personal, work and civic life, and provides the fundamentals on which mathematical specialties and professional applications of mathematics are built. Mathematics helps students to acquire the skills and knowledge to deal confidently and competently with daily life – for employment, further study and interest. The learning of Mathematics is supported by the use of technology. The Mathematics curriculum aims to ensure that students develop useful mathematical and numeracy skills for everyday life, and are able to see connections and apply mathematical concepts, skills and processes to pose and solve problems. Year 9 Laurel Mathematics allows students to pursue studies of areas of mathematics beyond the Year 9 curriculum.
