LEAP LEARNING EXCELLENCE THROUGH APPLIED PATHWAYS

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The LEAP program – Learning Excellence through Applied Pathways – is an exciting program at Year 10. It is offered to students who enjoy more ‘hands on learning’ and project and team-based activities. LEAP students will study a combination of Year 10 Academic Subjects along with some Competency-Based Courses, where assessment focuses on the acquirement and demonstration of knowledge and skills.

Applied Learning requires a student to be organised, motivated, able to work well on their own and when in a team.

An important element of this program is involvement in regular community service activities. Students who cannot demonstrate the maturity, cooperation and work ethic in Community Action ma be removed from LEAP and returned to mainstream Year 10.

As a key component of their studies, students will select from a suitable range of Certificate II VET Courses offered on campus at Nazareth College. In making this personal selection, students will have an engaging year of study. These VET opportunities will provide a ‘taste’ of possible VET pathways for inclusion in future VCE or VCE VM study as well as teaching students the necessary skills for their community service and provide a smooth transition to adulthood and the world of work. VET courses are likely to be timetabled on Wednesday afternoons, with LEAP students expected to attend their timetabled lessons prior to their VET lessons.

Students may select a VET in a similar industry or change to something different in Year 11 VCE or VCE VM in their exploration or consolidation stage of a senior school pathway plan.
