THE NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH AND FAMILY CENTER

19TH ANNUAL GALA AND AUCTION presented by Comcast NBCUniversal

With your partnership and support, it was a wonderful Return to Community

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

With your partnership and support, we again broke records–together we raised more than $630,000 for our wraparound services that touch the lives of 10,000 community members each year.

What a wonderful night and a beautiful Return to Community! On behalf of the Board and staff of the Native American Youth and Family Center, thank you for your generous support of our 19th Annual Gala and Auction, the largest celebration of Native American Heritage Month in the Pacific Northwest. And celebrate we did!

We were honored that you joined us–it was wonderful to be able to gather in person, and we could feel the energy and support come through the livestream for those who joined us virtually. Your participation in our celebration made it an evening to remember!

With a beautiful blessing from Cowlitz Spiritual Leader Tanna Engdahl, Honor Song by the Black River Singers, inspiring appeal by the amazing PSU Student Kobe Norcross, and the return of concert violinist Swil Kanim, the spirit of love and vision of hope for the future shone through the “moments of giving” and our fabulous art auction. We celebrated Native culture and your wonderful support in true NAYA style.

We were honored to Return to Community with you. As we emerge from this prolonged pandemic, your partnership and support much needed and much appreciated. It is through the generosity of those who believe in the work we do that NAYA is able to impact the lives of more than 10,000 people each year!

Thank you!

OUR COMMUNITY AND THE IMPACT OF

YOUR INVESTMENT

Youth centered, family driven, elder guided. With the goal of providing stability for our community members—moving them out of poverty and on the path to prosperity—NAYA’s services build upon our community’s strength, culture, and traditions and help families reclaim their heritage and their futures. NAYA serves a large and diverse Native American community, comprised of 60,000 members from over 380 tribes. Each member of our community has a unique pathway to thrive and prosper in our region, and NAYA is dedicated to be in service to them all.

During the pandemic, the wide array of critical wraparound services that NAYA provides to community members each day was delivered virtually. Now, as we return to our campus and welcome community back, we have much to be thankful for. TOGETHER, we provide the essential support when they need it the most, ensuring that our youth and families:

• Stay healthy and safe by providing meal delivery and food boxes, offering COVID testing and vaccines to our community and staff, and uplifting our foster care youth and families

• Have a place to call home by helping 29 families purchase their first homes during the pandemic, and bringing 160 new units of affordable housing in three new developments within 1 mile of our campus in NE Portland

• Pursue education at all ages with early head start and early childhood programs, celebrating 28 seniors graduating from our Many Nations Academy during the pandemic, and connecting youth with their dreams beyond high school at college and career nights

• Find their paths to prosperity with microenterprise programs, small business investments, financial wellness classes, and IDA opportunities

• Engage courageously in civic discourse by uplifting leadership, expanding our outreach to SW Washington, and getting out the Native vote

And finally, we welcome them back to NAYA as we return to community and safely re-open our campus. We are continuing our place-based investments by upgrading and repairing our buildings, indigenizing and decolonizing our land at Neerchokikoo, and creating an amazing community garden with a year-round promise of beautiful produce, traditional medicines, and a grounding connection that will sustain us for generations to come.

Our mission is to enhance the diverse strengths of our youth and families in partnership with the community through cultural identity and education. We believe that traditional cultural values are integral to retaining sovereignty and building self-esteem.

We could not do all this without your support.

TOGETHER, we make a difference for Portland’s Native community. Thank you for investing in NAYA and our wonderful Return to Community.
