affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier” (2 Timothy 2:3-4). We’re called to a different lifestyle from that of people who live only for themselves in the pursuit of comfort and convenience. But any sacrifices are outweighed by the great honor and privilege of representing God’s interests in a world where most live with little or no reference to His presence or authority. All this makes life an adventure! We never know beforehand how God will use us, and we’ll probably have little idea of the fullness of how He did until we get to heaven. But in the meantime, we get to experience the thrill of seeing His power and goodness flow through us to others in any context.

THE FAMILY BUSINESS If we are going to represent God’s interests well, we need to know what they are. We need to understand the family business. Our heavenly Father is by nature a worker, creator, and sustainer who constantly and tirelessly keeps the universe from blowing apart. “Great are the works of the Lord; they are studied by all who delight in them. Splendid and majestic is His work” (Psalm 111:2-3). All day long, God actively and deliberately reveals His goodness and His greatness in every corner of the globe. He masterfully maintains the ecosystem and the natural laws that create air for us to breathe and food for us to eat. His hand sustains every molecule of the universe. On every shore, the ocean stops precisely where He wants it to. There is not one more or less grain of sand on the beach than He desires. He numbers every hair on our heads and knows our days before we live them. Every animal, every tree, every blade of grass is the product of His
