Housing Affordability Trust Awards $1.3 Million to Local Housing Programs and Projects Recipients include First Light, Inc, on the verge of closing doors
BIRMINGHAM, AL: The Housing Affordability Trust (HAT) today announced $1.3 million in donations to six Birmingham-based organizations. HAT's mission is to fund Affordable Housing-related projects and programs.
This year’s grantees include:
First Light: Supportive Care Services in Shelter Plus Care Housing
Cooperative Downtown Ministries: Nashamah Transitional Housing Program
Cooperative Downtown Ministries: Safe Haven Housing Rehab
Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham: Healthy Housing Initiatives
Woodlawn Foundation: Homeowner Rehabilitation Program
YWCA Central Alabama: Renovations for Harbor Apartments, Our Place and Child Development Center
For over a decade, a joint venture of the Jefferson County Housing Authority and Navigate Affordable Housing Partners has been acting as HUD’s Section 8 Performance-Based Contract Administrator in four states, including Alabama Profits from this venture have been used to support various affordable housing projects and programs through the Trust

“In evaluating the applications, HAT was looking for organizations with a track record of success,” says Navigate’s Marketing Coordinator Ebony Hall. “The Trust also considered how many people the funded project or program would serve and how it could best meet their needs We’re very excited about this year’s recipients”
In 2017, HAT donated close to $6 million to Birmingham-based organizations.
