The ultimate one-stop-shop for student engagement and belonging at Penn State.

Navengage developed the Engagement App for Penn State, which officially launched at the start of the Fall 2022 Semester. Since then, thousands of students, faculty, and staff have logged on to uncover a university-wide network of events and engagement opportunities populated by Penn State's ecosystem of individuals, organizations, departments, and data sources.

As Penn State Alumni, we are proud to partner with our Alma Mater to rethink the student experience. With the Engagement App, students can navigate Penn State's wide range of engagement opportunities with ease. Not only does the app act as a resource hub, it serves as a social tool to help students find others within their campus communities who share their interests

We are grateful for all parties involved in bringing the Engagement App to life, including the Penn State Student Engagement Network, our entire Navengage Team, and the students, faculty, and staff who have worked with us to maximize the app experience. Together, we've helped thousands of students find their place and get engaged at Penn State. We're excited to share highlights from the Fall 2022 Semester in this report, and we look forward to building on the app's success in the New Year!

Unlike traditional higher ed technology, the Engagement App is built with a student-first mentality that recognizes the individual wants and needs of every student, no matter where they are on their Penn State journey.

"Scan in on the Engagement App!"

Penn State Global teamed up with the Engagement App Team to enhance the 2022 Education Abroad Fair, which took place on November 3rd at Penn State's University Park campus. Students were prompted to scan their attendance using the Event Scan on the Engagement App as opposed to swiping their student I.D.'s. The process resulted in a quick, easy, and efficient way for tracking attendance. 100+ people scanned into the event using the Engagement App.

A "game changer" for Penn State Homecoming

Tim Nevil, Executive Director of Penn State Homecoming, was quick to work with the Engagement App Team to learn how his organization could utilize it to reach more students at Penn State campuses.

"Penn State Homecoming is founded on building a community and with this app we can now reach students across the University we formally may not have reached. This app is a game changer for us. It's now easier than ever for Penn State Homecoming to reach more students and include Commonwealth Campus students in our efforts," said Nevil.

Penn State Homecoming sponsored a week of Daily Challenges on the Engagement App to celebrate Homecoming Week, which took place Oct. 17-21. One of the prizes included a free ticket to the Penn State Whiteout Game!

"First Year Engineers" Group Chat

We worked with the College of Engineering to create a "First Year Engineers" group chat. We took all of the first year engineering students from the College, cross-listed it with the existing students who had signed into the Engagement App, and made a group chat for the College to communicate about updates and provide a space for questions. We also auto-added them as followers to the College of Engineering's page on the app, so that the College’s posts showed up in their newsfeeds.

SEMESTER HIGHLIGHTS

"Class of '26" Group Chat

Every class year has their own group chat on the Engagement App. Specifically, the "Class of '26" group chat became very active from the start of the semester. Within the group chat, students have made plans to meet up, asked questions about meal plans, sent dog pictures, shared campus stories, and sold football tickets. This group chat serves as a safe space for students to connect and find a sense of belonging at Penn State.
