Studio Learning
65 | Master plan Studio, CEPT University
The studio has enabled us to deal with largescale projects emphasizing on designing livable neighborhoods. The studio begins by exploring different USP’s and visions of upcoming developments and townships in the peripheries of city. This was followed by the contex tual analysis for the need to have a township in Ahmedabad. The framework thus helped us to orient our thought process in developing bold and creative visions for the township.
The idea, vison was then translated to design strategies by understanding and incorporat ing the regulatory framework. The context of our site gave us the opportunity to explore multiple design elements and their influence on the city acting as an anchor point. Once the vision and objectives were finalized, it was then translated to sensible design frame work which focused on creating robust and flexible street networks, developable parcel sizes and ways to harness the ecological potential of the site. Configuration of building blocks according to the parcel sizes and the regulatory framework was a vital part in de veloping desired blocks.
Though we had bold ideas and visions we were also aware of the ground reality and the extent to which negotiations can be made to create a robust Masterplan. This made the entire learning process more challenging and joyful.Inputs from Midterm jury, workshops and guest lectures were valuable and helped us to understand the ways in which the design can be made more workable.
Overall, the studio has helped us to respond to the demand of expansion in the rapidly growing urban centres by creating flexible framework plans that enable sustainable, inclu sive neighbourhood that are also responsive to the ecological assets.
