In the master plan, an existing ecological corridor is extended through the site, connecting existing green spaces. The corridor becomes a tributary of the LA River, and a central spine where smaller tributaries can branch off throughout the site. The first set of tributaries are agricultural, which provide various scales of agricultural production. Stormwater and gray water can move through these streets toward the ecological spine, leading to the river. The second set of tributaries are programmed for social connection.

Carved Out

Spring 2022 | 2nd Year Housing Studio | Professor: Jesús Utrillas

Carved Out is an intentional community proposed in Uptown New Orleans. The project celebrates the variation of daily life and provides multiple collective and public areas for these activities. These interior and exterior spaces vary in program. The elevated walkway creates a lively atmosphere where residents can interact and gather.

The In-between

Fall 2021 | 2nd Year Studio | Professor: Nimet Anwar

Jefferson Island is full of rich history and conditions above and below the surface. The project’s objective is to explore the in-between area and the circulation and logic of the room and pillars in the salt mine. The floor plan was inspired by the salt mine floor plan, which is symmetrical for the speed and efficiency of the workers. However, three methods (cluster, shift, and unify) were used to disrupt this system, so visitors would have to take their time to experience the project thoroughly.

Small Inhabited Spaces

Spring 2022 | 2nd Year Housing Studio | Professor: Jesús Utrillas

Horizontal Home

The concept of this proposed small horizontal house is differentiating between day vs night. The house was designed for a 5 person family with a dog. The program is placed in an L-shape surrounding an outdoor courtyard. The courtyard is an intersection between the day or night programs because both can flow into it.
