There are few towns in Serbia, which in a relatively short period of time, for a little more than two decades, experienced such dynamic development as it was the case with Kraljevo in the period between two world wars. It came out of the First World War as a town of "black kerchiefs and flags", demographically crippled, with impoverished households, plundered trade and crafts shops, devastated schools and other public buildings, destroyed infrastructure and almost dead economic courses, but in the next 22 years, especially during the 30-ies of 20th century, thanks to the intense government investment in the domain of industry and transportation, it created preconditions for developing into a modern city.
