My name is Danielle Brown, and I am a general dentist practicing in Los Angeles, CA. I was born, raised, educated, and still reside in Inglewood, CA. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University. I graduated from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at USC where I was a member of SNDA and the Pediatric Dentistry Selective. Since graduating I have been a member of Angel City Dental Society, and have served as a board member of Western Los Angeles Dental Society.

Throughout my 6 years of practicing dentistry I have worked in multiple private practice offices, a low income clinic office, and a DSO supported practice. The diversity of these practices has helped to shape me into the doctor and person I am today. These experiences have also taught me that there is still so much to learn.

In my leisure time, I enjoy traveling, crafting, relaxing, and spending time with my family. And in true dentist fashion, I have recently taken up golf!

I am beyond grateful to be recognized by NDA. I am so blessed to be among an amazing group of dentists and human beings and look forward to continuing to grow both as an organization and as a group.

Dr. Michelle Brown is a general dentist from Los Angeles, CA who is currently attending Howard University’s Pediatric Residency Program in pursuit of her lifelong dream of being a board certified pediatric dentist. After graduating from Howard summa cum laude, she went back home to LA to attend the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California. While attending USC, Dr. Brown was heavily involved with the school’s community outreach programs, most notably the Dental Humanitarian Outreach Program. The program involved serving underprivileged children in both Kenya and Jamaica, through oral health counseling, cleanings, comprehensive exams, quadrant dentistry and other treatments. Through her outreach, Dr. Brown developed a passion for working with children. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Brown worked at a nonprofit women and children’s clinic for several years before pursuing her passion of working with children full time in a private practice. Dr. Christopher Anthony Butler was born in Plaquemine, LA in 1992 to Mr. and Mrs. Caula and Percy Butler, Jr. Christopher A. Butler attended Crescent Elementary before becoming a proud graduate of the award-winning Baton Rouge Magnet High School. In 2014, he earned his Bachelors of Science (BS) in Biological Sciences from Louisiana State University. Shortly after, Dr. Butler began attending Meharry Medical College, where, based on his exceptional scholastic ability, Dr. Butler was awarded the John and Rita Conroy Endowed Scholarship. Dr. Butler obtained his first Masters of Health Sciences (MHS) in 2016 and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2020. While attending Meharry Medical College in Nashville Dr. Butler served as Basileus of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and became a well-known Student Ambassador. In honor of his determination, he was presented with the Ewell-Neil Graduate Research Award, which is presented to a graduating senior who demonstrated outstanding achievement in creating fellowship amongst peers and promoting opportunities for research. From childhood Christopher’s aspirations were to become a physician or a pilot. Always encouraging self-confidence, both parents expounded on Christopher’s passions because they too wanted him to achieve his goals. His parents created a culture in their home where pushing boundaries are expected and for both he and brother (Percy III) to know and understand that hard work ultimately produces extraordinary outcomes. Chris’ hand skills are certainly a gift from God. Since the age of 7 he has played and mastered every brass instrument (from the tuba to the clarinet). Furthermore, he has a passion for art and has often spent his spare time drawing and painting teeth, cartoon characters, etc.

While pursuing his education, Dr. Butler gained experience assisting in family dentistry and found his true passion in pediatric dentistry. Most recently, Dr. Butler received his second Masters of Dentistry (MSD) from the University of Louisville and completed his advanced training in Pediatric dentistry, where he became certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. There, he was inducted into The Society for Collegiate Leadership & Achievement, a distinction for honor graduate students whose academic performance demonstrates their commitment and drive to become a leader.

To date, Dr. Butler is believed to be the first African American male pediatric dentist in Louisiana. For 14 years, Dr. Butler has participated in community outreach programs that ranged from providing oral healthcare education to performing oral screenings and dental services. Outside of his white coat, Dr. Butler enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with his furry four-legged son “Chapo”. Dr. Butler also gets a thrill out of flying. So much so that at the age of 17, he became licensed at Embry Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Florida as a Private Pilot.

Dr. Butler is excited to be home and begin his career at Smiles Star Pediatric Dentistry, where he has not only been a patient for the last 25 years but now has the distinct honor of working alongside Dr. Steven Ripple.

Dr. Butler’s ultimate goal is to encourage other African American males, especially those from Plaquemine and surrounding areas, to pursue a career in the dentistry profession by helping to create a pathway which will help them to navigate the course. Like many in this community, Dr. Butler has had to overcome obstacles to get where he is today, which is why he can appreciate these inspirational words from Booker T. Washington, “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.”

He supported, through research, the notion that those with better dental appearance were more likely to have better selfconfidence, reaffirming the importance of dentistry in social and mental well-being, identity, and overall health. Upon completion of this degree, he worked in graduate education and research, after which he completed a second master’s degree in Medical Science graduating summa cum laude. Ready to excel and contribute to the dental field further, he began his dental education at ECU School of Dental Medicine. Serving as Class President, graduating with honors and at the top of his class, he chose to begin orthodontics training at Nova Southeastern University to ensure he could provide access to excellent clinical orthodontic care. My name is Tofunmi Osundeko and I'm the owner operator of my practice, White Center Smiles in Seattle, WA. Thank you for stopping by to get to know a little bit more about me. One question that I’m always asked is: why dentistry? Why did you choose this profession? Dentistry is art. It is precision. It is teaching others how to create and maintain a healthy and beautiful smile. I enjoy the challenges and the victories my profession grants me, and every day is a fresh, new experience. My goal is to help others in realizing all things are possible. Not many patients truly love coming to the dentist, whether it's due to past trauma or preconceived notions and so I've spent the last nine years working to reduce barriers to entry and to gain the trust of those who have not felt heard.

I was born in Lagos, Nigeria but grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after emigrating there as a young child. After earning my Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) from the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University, I moved to Wichita, Kansas to complete my AEGD residency. Not long after, I took a road trip to Seattle, and I've basically been here ever since!

I chose to practice in the White Center community because it is a neighborhood built by entrepreneurs from all walks of life. While being one of the most diverse areas in King County, the community boasts of a reputation for being close-knit, where people support one another and band together to help those in need. Coming from an immigrant background myself, and already living in a city that struggles with cultivating and strengthening its black population, it was important to me that the patients I serve reflect a more diverse racial and national background than what I was seeing in most of the greater Seattle area.

I'm heavily involved in my state dental association (WSDA) both as a delegate, a member of several committees, and a champion for a new initiative aimed at connecting black dentists in the Washington area. I am also on a dentist advisory panel for Delta Dental of Washington, with the goal being to work on the previously strained relationship between providers and the largest payor in our state so that we can collaborate in a way that is mutually beneficial. I also serve as a mentor for young predental students who come from diverse backgrounds and show an interest in business management. My hopes are to keep reaching out to black dentists and patients alike who struggle to see themselves in their colleagues and healthcare providers, respectively. Dentistry should never have to be an island and so I will continue trying to bridge the gap.
