Why are the Galapagos Islands important?

The Galapagos Islands were really important to Charles Darwin’s ideas about evolution. When he visited in 1835, he noticed that animals like finches and tortoises were different on each island. This made him wonder how living things change to survive in different places. His discoveries there helped him come up with his famous theory of evolution in his book On the Origin of Species. The Galapagos Islands are also very important because they are home to many species of animals that live only on specific islands in the Galapagos. Animals such as the Galapagos giant tortoise have even evolved on the islands, which inspired Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, meaning without the Galapagos Islands, multiple species wouldn't be able to survive, and we wouldn’t have Darwin's theory today.

How do people use the Galapagos Islands?
