MCHS Retreat: A Time of Testimony Rachel Hadley STAFF WRITER Dark room. Bright lights. Loud music. Hands raised and voices singing.

These were the sights and sounds of Thursday night's chapel session at the 2015 MCS High School Retreat, which was held on Palomar Mountain from September 16th through the 18th. Junior Izzy Landis said of this night, "I felt

God's presence within the chapel and [it was] by far the most moving worship session I have attended and witnessed."

She is one of the many people that were touched by the Holy Spirit while on this year's retreat.

The student body was truly blessed to have Corey Silversmith and his band perform worship over their three-day, two-night stay. Along with wonderful worship, guest speaker Ben Courson did

a phenomenal job getting his messages across to the students and keeping them laughing as he went. Several times throughout his messages, he provided everyone with mind-blowing facts that portrayed how amazing our Creator is.

He posed deep questions such as: “Why wish upon a star when you can pray to the One who created it?"

The high school student body, decked out in blue, faces painted, and high in spirits, screamed loudly and proudly at the pep rally for that night’s game against Army-Navy Academy on October 30th. Maranatha was chosen to be FOX 5 San Diego’s Goodwill Game of the Week, and a Goodwill donation station was set up at the game to collect various goods. Head Coach Mike Cole and Captain Jake Bronson were interviewed during the pep rally and featured live that morning during FOX 5’s Prep Blitz!

Retreat continued from page 1 Along with receiving messages and taking part in amazing worship, students were able to grow closer to God and one another through small group time and morning devotionals.

Small groups provided great opportunities for students to open up to each other and really share what was on their hearts. Morning devotionals also

provided students with time to take a step back from life and start their days focused solely on God. The Holy Spirit not only stirred inside the hearts of many, but also helped students strengthen their relationships with one another. Leading up to retreat, students from every grade were split up into different competing teams. This distribution of students was meant to spark friendships and enhance current ones. Sophomore Karinne House stated, "I like the teams because they force you to get to know students that you normally wouldn't speak to, and it really helps you to bond with everyone, working together to complete challenges as a team, not by yourself."

Anti-bullying Assembly: Moving Messages Melody Hwangbo STAFF WRITER On September 11, a large crowd of “hangry” high school students flooded into the gym for a high-energy anti-bullying seminar.

After an intense dance battle between four of MCHS’ best dancers, in which Senior Robby Yamaguchi emerged victorious, it was time to get serious. One of the speakers, Jim Rooney, stepped forward and told a comedic story of how he had planned to "pull off the greatest victory in capture-the-flag history" but failed

spectacularly, ending up with an imprint of a soccer net on his face for the rest of the week. He reminded the student body that there would always be unexpected things in life that would “sweep them off their feet,” but “no matter what happens to you that is unexpected in this life...how you react to it is still your choice."

The second speaker, Esther, shared her personal testimony. She grew up as a church -going, normal kid, but with an angry and abusive father and a feeling that she did not belong within her school. She announced that she was here today to talk to "any and every young person who might be hurting ...broken...who might've felt that they were a victim of someone else's words or actions." She warned that some people hide their scars because they think it will separate them from the crowd, but it is essential to ask for help. And to those who had perhaps—intentionally or not— wounded someone with their words, she asked to let her tell them "two very helpful, very powerful words: ‘I'm sorry.’"

Esther finished with one last message: if you see bullying going on, "grab four or five of your biggest, baddest friends, walk into the situation, and say, ‘Hey! You! You leave him alone. He's havin' lunch with us.'"

Hoedown: Bobbing for Memories Amanda Thurman STAFF WRITER The Hoedown was full of fun and excitement! The high school student body was invited to attend this fun event, located in the courtyard of the school on Friday, August 21st.

It was a great way to spend your Friday evening; you could talk to your friends, eat great food, and get a little competitive with some western-themed contests. Some of these contests included an apple bobbing contest, a pie-eating contest, and a donut-eating contest. They were a lot of fun to watch, and to play as well! The students crowded around the center of the courtyard, intently watching each game and laughing when the contestants' faces were soaked with water from apple bobbing, or when pie or donut crumbs were all over their faces after competing in the eating contests.

The Hoedown was hosted by ASB and they did a wonderful job planning and decorating everything.

There was also a stage set up where

a band played western music throughout the event. Towards the end, some students went next to the stage and started dancing to the music, laughing and having a good time as they attempted square dancing .

In short, the Hoedown was a wonderful opportunity to connect with people and enjoy the first Friday of the school year.

The happiesT place in ‘naTha Anna Corey STAFF WRITER Maranatha Christian Schools' 2015 homecoming week was a huge success! Last year, the student body voted for a Disney-themed homecoming, and the ASB did not disappoint, putting on several Disneythemed spirit days throughout the week.

On Monday, students dressed up as Disney tourists and had the opportunity to purchase food from a food truck during lunch.

On Tuesday, each grade level dressed up according to their class themes. The Freshmen were Aladdin, the Sophomores were Peter Pan, the Juniors were Hercules, and the Seniors were The Lion King. In addition, there was a powder puff football game at lunch, put on for the entire school. The football players dressed up as cheerleaders and cheered the ladies on. The Junior and Senior girls pulled out a win against the underclassmen with a score of 18-0. Go lady Eagles! On Wednesday, students dressed up as Star Wars characters, and on Thursday, they dressed as Pixar characters.

Friday was the day of the much-anticipated homecoming game. Students dressed in their school colors in support of the football team. The cheerleaders and ASB put on an amazing pep rally that got everyone excited

for the rest of the homecoming festivities. That night, the Eagles played hard against Classical Academy and came up just short of the win with a score of 33-26.

The halftime show consisted of a performance done by the cheerleaders, homecoming court recognition, and the float show.

The Freshman Court was Will Davis and Bella Segoria, the Sophomores were Justin Gray and Sarah Trent, and the Juniors were Chloe Scafiddi and Antonio Partida. The Senior Court consisted of Daniel Trent and Morgan Wurtzler, along with Homecoming King Jake Bronson and Queen Laurel Gray.

As for the floats, everyone had a wonderful time participating in the parade and showing off their hard work. Congratulations to the Freshman class, whose Aladdin-themed float won them

a free dress day!

Lastly came the Homecoming dance from 7-10 pm on Saturday. The high school students enjoyed dressing up and dancing with their friends, along with taking pictures in the photo booth. Overall, the homecoming week of 2015 was an e xp erie nce t hat t he Maranatha student body will never forget!

The fair was very successful: most of the student body signed up for a club before leaving, many signing up for two, three, and even four clubs. “I’ve already signed up for four clubs; there’s just so much I want to do,” exclaimed one MCS Freshman.

ASB established the Club Fair this year to allow MCS clubs to gain exposure on campus. “I constantly get questions about clubs,” shared ASB advisor Mrs. Petty. “I hope that by the Club Fair people can visually see what goes on in clubs and gain interest to join.”

Clubs are undoubtedly an important part of campus life and the high school experience. Clubs not only allow students to establish strong relationships with others who share similar interests,

but also can bring unity within the school.

There is a club for everyone at MCS, as the student-run clubs run the gamut: ’Natha News, National Honors Society, Key, Blue Brew, International Space Station, Math, Design, Ceramics, Jewelry, Surf, Blue Crew, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Although each club is unique, the presidents or advisors that ’Natha News spoke to shared an universal objective: to push students to do more and be excited about doing something they’re passionate about. ’Natha News is looking forward to accompanying these clubs on their journeys and reporting on their important events and developments throughout the years.

Maranatha Music: Band, Orchestra, + Drumline Karinne House STAFF WRITER What would a football game be without a band? The whole atmosphere of of the event would be different. They wouldn't be there to cheer on the team, joining in on the ground as the crowd roots them on, and the air of the event simply wouldn't be the same. For some, it's what makes the games worth going to, as Grace Barnard, a 10th grade student, says: "I like having the band play at the football games because it's more entertaining than the game."

Two years ago, Maranatha didn't have a band to play at our sporting events.

However, just last year, music teacher Mr. Rodriguez was finally able to bring

together not only a band, but a drumline as well. It became an elective class, where students could learn a variety of instruments, and where no prior experience was needed to join. Students learned how to play, how to march, but most importantly, how to bring their musical talent to not only the school games, but to other events as well. The band would play during pep rallies, and even had their own recital at Maranatha Chapel. Drumline became an after school commitment, where students would learn different routines to play at the same events as the band.

This year, however, the band has become more of an orchestra under the management of a new teacher, Mr. Holguin. This opens the band up to more

EXPANDING HORIZONS AT COLLEGE

Class of 2014 Valedictorian Catherine Quinto, now pursuing her passions at UC Berkeley, reflects on her foundations at Maranatha Jessica Xu EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Multitalented, magnanimous, and motivated, Catherine Quinto, valedictorian of the MCS Class of 2014, is now pursuing her passions and expanding her horizons at the University of California Berkeley.

Now in her sophomore year at UC Berkeley, Catherine gratefully reflects on her first year in college. “I could not have asked for a better first year,” she said.

“The people are full of passion, and while they desire to succeed in their goals, they desire to see their friends succeed as well.”

In her freshman year, Catherine expanded her experiences by getting involved in the American Red Cross Club at Berkeley and interning for the Associated Students of the University of California. This year she has decided on Public Health for her major and has also joined two more clubs, both pertaining to her major: Partners in Health and American Medical Students Association.

Catherine continually thanks the Lord for giving her the opportunity to grow spiritually and emotionally at Berkeley.

From her experiences of speaking with both non-believers and believers, she has been able to experience “just how alive and full of joy the Christian life is.”

Catherine attributes her fulfilling experience at Berkeley to four central foundations she developed in high school at MCS: her foundation in Christ, the study habits she developed from taking rigorous classes, her involvement in school clubs, and her outreach, including volunteer work for young children.

“This connection to the outside world was personally beneficial as it showed me what career paths I could completely rule out and which ones I could see myself pursuing. It allowed me to translate between theoretical learning in the classroom and hands-on application of that knowledge in the real world,” asserted Catherine.

4. Volunteer Work In addition to school clubs, Catherine gave her time freely in volunteering.

One of her many outreach opportunities was starting and leading the Philippians Club for young children in East County San Diego. She met with the children every Friday to teach about character-building as well as play some games and make crafts related to the night’s lesson. “While I initially thought that the kids would be the primary beneficiaries, I quickly realized that I was wrong. The more time I spent with them, the more I understood just how powerful kindness could be,” she said.

“Kids of all different backgrounds, some who had known nothing but bullying, were the greatest examples of what it means to be kind even when very few had been kind to them. Because of this, they have made an imprint on me and I can only hope that they can say the same about me.”

Evidently, Catherine’s high school experiences have allowed her to have a fulfilling time at college. The ‘Natha News staff wishes the best for Catherine as she expands her horizons in college and beyond.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY When most people think of National Honor Society (NHS) they often picture a gaggle of brainiacs with 4.0+ GPAs, but to relegate these people to simply "smart" paints an incomplete picture of the club and what it's about.

"The purpose of NHS is to support the school though different events like the blood drive and parents night out," Vice President Alexia Heyl commented.

NHS isn't just about grades or AP scores. According to President Morgan Wurtzler "It's based on leadership and

“Our goal is to get game attendance up and to get the whole student body fired up [for our athletic programs].” Partida commented.

If you’re interested in bringing up school morale without committing too much of your time, Blue Crew is for you!

defensive battle that could, very easily, have gone either way. Add to that the fact that this year’s Scots are a seniorheavy team, meaning that the Vincent we played this year is much the same team as last year. It doesn’t make the defeat sting any less, but it is a good yardstick for how far this program has come in such a short time.

Another key game this season is the MCS Eagles’ 40-0 decimation of TriCity Christian, who ironically are also called the Eagles. Prior to this game, Maranatha had never beaten TCC in football. Even our JV team had lost to TCC just that Wednesday. And while the

Pomerado News had predicted a victory for the MCS Eagles, no one could have anticipated this – except our players, who played that game with a ferocity and an intensity that we had never seen before.

Scoring on the opening offensive play, it was clear that the our Eagles were there for one thing and one thing only: victory.

The team never took their foot off the gas, and sent a clear message that this is a different Maranatha team than anything that’s come before. This year’s Eagles played hard in a very challenging league and have high hopes for playoffs.

And if they keep going all in like this, there’s no limit to what they can do.

A Look at the life and testimony of Coach Mike Cole Antonio Partida EDITOR ‘Natha News recently got a chance to interview Mike Cole, head coach of the MCS Eagles football team, about his life, faith, and, of course, football.

Growing up, Cole had a mentor in his grandfather, who was one of the best coaches in Ohio. He recalls how his grandpa taught him the game from a young age, and really instilled a passion

in him to play. In fact, his grandfather's example was one of the main reasons he decided to become a coach later in life.

Cole moved to San Diego from Hawaii, and attended Mount Carmel High School, where he played Varsity football. He then played for Grossmont, a junior college, where he won a national championship, and later transferred to SDSU, where he also played football.

Through it all, however, Cole looks back on the impact his high school career has had on his life, saying "...My best memories are from high school.

The teammates I had in high school are actually still my best friends."

Furthermore, he remembers that, while in high school, he never really liked any of his coaches; this ended up being a key catalyst in his decision to be a coach. His favorite moment from his time as a player was when his team beat out Rancho Bernardo High School in an upset win to clinch the Kiwanis Cup. Coach Cole has been a head coach here at MCS for 6 years, but his two favorite memories from his coaching career come from last season. His favorite memory was when the Eagles scored in the last few seconds of the 4th quarter to win a key league game against Calvary San Diego.

Building off of that, Cole notes how important it was that last year's Eagles took the Ocean League title. "When we went to eleven man [football] no one thought we had a chance. Everyone thought that we would lose and then go

back to eight man [football]. To win the league title was affirmation that we are doing the right thing," Cole says.

Cole would like to keep "instilling a love for football in kids" as the MCS program matures. He recognizes that many people don't have a mentor like he had in his grandfather, and his ultimate goal is to be that sort of leader for his players.

However, Cole believes that being a coach has had as much of an impact on him as it has had on his players. "It's a lot different when people are looking to you for leadership," Cole said. "I feel like if I wasn't living a Godly life and I was telling my players to live a Godly life that would be hypocritical."

In total, Coach Cole's story is an example of the old adage "it is better to give than to receive," because as he has given his time and effort to this program, God has used it to shape him into the man he is today. And, Lord willing, there will be another benefit to all of his hard work: many more championship banners on our gym walls.

Cross Country: “My sport is your sport ’s punishment” Anna Corey STAFF WRITER “Runners, take your marks, get set, go!!" The gun goes off and the runners dash out onto the course huffing and puffing, navigating through the complex trails. They work to maintain a steady pace and make advances against their competitors. As the race comes to its end, the racers sprint to the finish line. The crowd erupts with cheers and clapping to encourage the exhausted racers. Running cross country may be hard work, but it is also very rewarding.

This year, Maranatha Christian Schools has a team of nine members, eight boys and one girl. Each day, the team goes out to practice and participates in one of the many workouts that the coaches have planned for them. The dedicated Coach Thomas runs with the team every single day and encourages them to persevere through the difficult

times. Both Coach Gregory and Coach Thomas assign alternating workouts to ensure that their athletes are wellrounded and prepared for all types of courses. Some of the workouts include three to four miles runs, hill repeats, and tempo runs which are typically two miles or more of pacing— speeding up and then slowing down.

All the training leads up to weekly races which are each unique and can vary from 2.75 to 3.1 miles. The team has participated in more than five challenging courses now, and they have even hosted a meet on our very own campus. The athletes look forward to racing in future meets and strive to qualify for the big CIF race at the end of the season.

Cross country is a great way to connect with your classmates and release all the stress from school.

Anyone can run if they have the heart and the motivation to succeed! The MCS cross country team hopes to see you out there next year!

“Cheerleaders Are Athletes Too ” Bethany Nguyen STAFF WRITER Over the summer my dad and some of my friends asked if I was going to try out for a real sport this year. But now that they’ve seen what we do as a team and how hard we worked to get here, they don't seem to wonder about that anymore.

It's not easy being a cheerleader. Nor is it easy playing any other sport, such as football, volleyball, or soccer. Just like

any other sports team, cheer takes coordination, practice, rhythm, and camaraderie, the spirit of friendship and community in a group, to be a great athlete.

I went to three camps during summer that developed us to be the best and strongest we could be. Sure, we don't run across a field throwing a piece of leather or run back and forth on a gym floor trying to get a ball into a basket, but we still work hard to be our best. During

practice, not only do we go over our routines, we do a lot of arm, core, and leg workouts. A typical practice involves going over our routines and then working out. For example, we do push-ups and tricep dips to work our arms, lunges and squats to work our legs, and supermans to work our core.

Much like other sports, cheer competitions and games are all about performance. Teamwork is also important because if one person on the team is offbeat or not thinking clearly, then the whole team suffers.

Starting a few weeks before homecoming, the MCS cheerleaders rehearsed for the homecoming pep rally and practiced our homecoming routine.

All eighteen of us worked really hard to perfect every move of our routine. “I really liked how happy and in sync the girls were. They got me pepped for the game,” said junior Anna Corey.

So, whenever someone asks you if cheerleading is a sport, think about this article and say "yes.”

Words of Wisdom for Juniors Melody Hwangbo STAFF WRITER Junior year. The year sandwiched between the real beginning of all the high school madness and the grand finale of high school (and for many, the year of “senioritis”). Junior year is also a year featuring Advanced Placements (AP) and extracurricular activities galore, and, boy, can it get difficult. Junior year is a crucial deciding factor for the next chapter of life: college. Pretty much everything you do in these 12 months will impact your college life in some way.

That's a lot of pressure. So, what can you do to survive junior year?

Well, here are some tips.

First up, SATs and ACTs. The most important thing for juniors regarding SATs/ACTs is to try to get them finished before the last administration for this school year, which is in June. What Mr. Mireles, our college advisor, recommends is that students take their first test in the fall, "which,” he added, "gives them time to prep again, and evaluate what their strengths and weaknesses were, study, and take it again in the spring.” SAT/ACT scores are very, very, very important. It just can't be emphasized enough. According to Mr. Mireles, "when it comes to being admitted into a college, your SAT score is one of the two or three most important factors." Mr. Mireles’ hopes are that everyone would get, at the minimum, 500 points for each section, the equivalent to a 21 or 22 in the ACT. Up next are APs. Juniors should take as many APs as they can, but only as many as they can. It is

important that they are able to handle their AP classes and do well in them.

Also important is performing well on the AP exams. Try to aim high, as some colleges will award credits in a subject to those who do well on its AP exam.

There are also extracurricular activities to worry about, too. Juniors need to make sure they are doing something productive with their time, such as community service or internships. Mr. Mireles suggests that juniors "find something they enjoy or [are] passionate about, and find an organization that's doing something in that area, and just try out volunteering for them." According to Mr. Mireles, extracurriculars don’t have a large impact when applying for bigger schools. "It's more of a numbers game for them," he commented. For smaller schools however, extracurriculars can make a huge difference, so immerse yourself in extracurriculars–it’s better to be safe than sorry!

But even though all of this is i m p o r t a n t , i t d o e s n ' t me a n everything. Yes, GPA, community service, internships, leadership positions, and standardized test scores all play a major role in getting you into college. However, that doesn't mean you should be involved in things just because they look good on your college applications or bolster your chances for getting into a good college. Junior year is a oncein-a-lifetime experience, and it should be enjoyed. So here's some final advice: Carpe Diem. Seize the day, and don’t be afraid to make some memories while you’re riding the crazy roller coaster that is Junior year.

Paid for and made possible by the Parent Action Committee (PAC) and Boosters, the student center in the gym mezzanine is there to help you to focus and knock out your homework or study during free periods or after school.

“Last year (2014-15) was the first year as it is now...it is a privilege to have that space—it’s important to remember that just over a year ago it was little more than a black box,” said Boosters leader Mrs. Dewildt. “It has always been our hope that our students would gather there, be grateful for it, and take care of it.”

Junior Joey Cabral states, “I go to the student center just about every day where I do my assignments for my AP classes with my laptop and grab a soda or a snack.” Also, if at any time you’re not in a class and you need to charge your iPad, the student center has outlets where you can plug in your electronic device to power it back up.

Another great thing about the student

center is that it’s where you can find college information, announcements for upcoming events, and Mr. Mireles’ and Mrs. Carlson’s offices. If you ever have any questions about classes, they would be glad to answer them for you. The student center is not just for hanging out with your friends, but it is a place that can also assist you in your student life.

The student center is also available at lunch. You are free to relax and eat in there, but often the student center gets a little crowded. Additionally, there is a microwave so you can heat up your food.

So, if you ever want a place to sit and relax at lunch with comfy chairs and couches, the student center is constantly there for you to use.

Overall, the student center is a very positive environment with the end goal of your academic success. If you ever need a quiet place to study or do homework, the student center is yours to use. Take care of the great opportunity you have as students to have your very own area by picking up any trash and keeping it organized. Our high school is very blessed to have a student center, so we hope you enjoy it and take good care of it.

TARGET ACQUIRED: Senior Assassins Allison Fan STAFF WRITER What is senior assassins? In this game, targets are randomly selected and players try to eliminate each other by using water guns, until there is only one person left. This is the first year of senior assassins at Maranatha.

The rules at Maranatha are as follows: Each player must pay $10 to play, and winner gets the sum total.

Targets are randomly chosen from a plastic bag, and are changed every two weeks to spice up the competition. In order to “assassinate” your target, you must use a water gun; however, targets are safe when they are wearing a floatie or when they are on the school campus.

As of September 21, the poison card is

also now in play, which must be placed into the target’s food or drink. If the target eats or drinks from the food or drink, they are considered “poisoned.”

Once a target is “killed,” the assassin will acquire their target.

When asked about her experience, Natalie Crouse said, "it’s very intense but also very exciting; you're trying to find out who has you while at the same time you have to come up with a plan to kill your target." Andre Escoffier commented, “it’s fun game because you are almost always paranoid and you get to look funny with your friends when you’re out in public wearing a floatie."

Robby Yamaguchi added, “it’s a great new tradition for the senior class to have for this year and for the years to come.”

Introduced to the public a few months ago, Ant-Man takes the fifth spot of our list. In Ant-Man, Scott Lang turns from a thief to a hero. Armed with a suit that allows him to change his height and communicate with ants, he fights for the good of those around him. Nowadays, who hasn't seen the

specialty pizzas like “Truffle and Porcini,” and my personal favorite, the “Bolognese Pizza,” more to their liking.

Vegetarians will also be very happy at Napizza, as they can find a wide selection of salads, toppings and salad dressings.

Should you still be hungry, Napizza offers desserts like the Nutella Pizza, Cannolis, or a classic Tiramisu. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and waiting times are usually short. Napizza is a perfect place for you and your family!

SUSHI ON THE ROCK Sushi on the Rock is a sushi and Japanese fusion restaurant, located at 16625 Dove Canyon Road. Here you can find classic entrees like the California Roll, Tempura Shrimp, bento boxes, and fried rice. Should you be a bit more adventurous, I would highly recommend the Crunchy Roll (shrimp tempura, crab, and cucumber, topped with tempura “crunchies” and eel sauce). Avengers? Released in 2012, Avengers is still a very popular movie for all the science fiction lovers out there.

According to Money Nation, Avengers has earned the most money out of all of the Marvel movies, topping Avengers 2 at 1.5 billion dollars. In this movie, the Avengers must unite to defeat Loki, the god of mischief. When Loki brings in an alien army, their job gets a bit more complicated. Through all of it, they are brought together in order to save the world through teamwork, and of course a lot of smashing. It has rightfully earned an 8.1 out of 10 on IMDb, and a 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

With the upcoming sequel expected in 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy is sure to continue to be a favorite of Marvel fans here at MCS and beyond.

Top of our list, Guardians of the Galaxy introduced new characters, settings, and plots that have captivated cinemagoers and allowed them to delve deeper into the Marvel universe. Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, is a mercenary that is, against his will, entangled into the lives of others around him through strange circumstances.

PUESTO Puesto offers Mexican street food and is located at 1026 Wall Street in La Jolla.

Puesto just got voted the best ceviche in San Diego, and the menu does not disappoint! Puesto’s kitchen is innovative and the mixture of its flavors is extraordinary. While their tacos are outstanding and the chips and salsa are one of a kind, the house-made guacamole is a singularly stellar spread the likes of which cannot be equaled in San Diego.

My personal favorites are the terrific ceviche and the one of a kind tamarindo shrimp tacos! This little restaurant (seating space is limited) will positively surprise you, and if you appreciate good solid Mexican food, you will not regret having come here. Puesto has become increasingly popular, and sometimes you will have to wait quite a while for a table!

But once you sit down and enjoy the delicious food, you’ll find that the wait was well worth it.

We know high school can be a bit scary at first, so we asked some MCS seniors to share their advice.

Try new things.

Plan to succeed.

“Be willing to try new things. At Maranatha we have the opportunity to get involved in so many things: ASB, drama, sports, clubs, etc. Don’t be afraid to explore your options!

High school might seem like forever, but believe me it goes by in the blink of an eye. So use the time you have at MCS to your advantage."

Devotional Anna Corey STAFF WRITER A huge issue in today's society is a lack of self-worth. So many people feel alone and as if no one cares about them. Maybe some feel as if they are unheard or as if they have nothing to contribute to the world. If that is you, there is hope.

Jesus Christ is the good news that you need to hear. He thinks the world of you and thinks that each and every one of you is of the utmost importance. He made you all in His image, so therefore you are wonderful in His eyes. As He says in Psalm 139:14, "you are fearfully and wonderfully made." He is the One who genuinely cares about each of you. He is always ready to listen to you and help you with your requests.

Do not focus yourself on finding your identity in relationships or sports, because those things are temporary. Find your identity in Christ because He will be by your side eternally and He will never think lowly of you or judge you. The world today will tell you that you have to be a certain way in order to achieve happiness, but what they don't reveal is that the people who seem to have it all together really don't.

You are not alone in your feelings.

It is so easy to let the lies envelope you, but that's where God steps in.

Pray to Him and ask for Him to shield you from the lies and to give you confidence in who you are. You will find so much satisfaction in Jesus that nothing will ever compare!
