Playing in the Old City City space revitalization in the old city of Jakarta by integrat ing child-friendly city space strategy
Bachelor’s Final Thesis Project
Shortlisted (Top 30) - 15 Minute City 2021 - The Charette
A city space including the Old City of Jakarta is generally dominated by motorized vehicles and isn’t save for children. Untidyness and unmaintained infrastructure in the Old City area causes the declination of pedestrians and tourists (including children) and effects the economy, which results in decreased vitality for the city. The effort to revitalize part of the city space empiricaly is proofen to be effective in increase the vitality of the city. This reasearch aims to find child friendly space design strategies that could help increase the vitality of the Old City. What are the integrated child friendly space design strategies and elements? Also, the city space design integrated with the essence of play in the city space of the Old City.
After further research, it is found that the strategies to design a child friendly city needs 3 aspects: 1) Essence of play characteristics; 2) play as a network with spots of play; 3) Standardized child friendly road and space.
Integrating these three strategy aspects is done through architectural design elements like color, material patterns, horizontal and vertical activity, lighting, shape, and tools of play.
The final design is approached by observing the context of the historical buildings. Play space, commercial and resting areas are located in unused historical buildings and using the existing empty spaces that has potential. Forming a play network connecting Jakarta Kota Station until Kali Besar river as a means for the integration of child friendly and commercial spaces.Play space area design pays close attention to the connection of play space area with the vehicle road, pedestrial road, and building facade, that is created with the concepts of permeability, landscape, and hidden gem.

Design Concept
Landscape
Integrating pedestrian pathway with the playspace area for easier access for children and families.
Permeability
Modules that is stacked and used to blur vision from the main road and creating an illusion of a building which height is matched with the context of the area.
Hidden Gem
Reusing old unused buildings, integrating it with the play space and commercial modules to create a new programming to invite children and families.
12 Playing in the Old City
Programming
Play spaces are connected directly to the middle green space courtyard for easy mobility and access to the play, rest, and commercial points.
Existing vehicle roads unsafe for children dan padestrians for the lack of green area and crossing zones.
Existing pedestrian with street vendors, trees, passerby (children, adults, and bicycle). Lacks resting areas (street chairs) and needs more green spaces.
Each point have their own program that consist of a 1 resting module, 1 commercial module, and the rest are play space modules that is places all around the resting and commercial modules.
Point Program where the play space module is placed around the resting and commercial space module.
Pedestrian crossing, green islands, and bicycle tracks added to the main road to be more child friendly and pedastrian oriented road.
Modules placed along the pedestrian roang to provide resting spaces for the visitors. Street vendors are given designated spaces in each points.

Hydro Huis
0 Energy Housing System Through The Bernoulli Effect Competition Project
Silver Award (2nd Prize) - Asia Young Designer Awards Indonesia 2020/2021
Indonesia is a tropical country where heat is one of the problem we face everyday. By using Air Conditioning, we are able to alter the temperature of our room, office, classroom, etc to a desirable temperature (Preverable lower temperatures ranging from 16-24oC). Air Conditioning has been one of the contributing problems to climate change and air pollution. By using less air conditioning and answering this problem through architectural design and modern cooling technology that has yet to be used in architecture. Reusing and redirecting 3 sources of energy throughout the whole house and achieving passive cooling for the house
1. Heat: Absorbing and redirecting the heat of the sun using water that flows throughout the whole house, flowing from top to bottom and pumped back to the top of the house. By understanding the laws of thermodynamics and the usage of the water cooling technology most frequently seen in electronic technology such as computers, laptops, and phones.
2. Light: Indirect Sunlight that should be used for indoor lighting, using various panels and shades to diffuse the direct sunlight and provide a softer light for the user despite the wide shade provided by the roof. By adding solar panels to maximize the energy intake from the sunlight, generating electricity that later be used at night to power the house.
3. Wind: By redirecting the flow of the wind and understanding the Bernoulli Effect, and incorporating it in architectural design will provide passive cooling and natural ventilation throughout the housing complex.

Project DA4
Transit Oriented Mixed-used Design
3rd Year Project
Blok M, a previously known area fot its modern culture area has depleted in the last few years resulting in the downfall of the Blok M area. By integrating a mixed-use building with the existing program and culture, directly accesible from the MRT creating a organic fluid form of mobility fot the users. Answering the contextual site problems with the shape and programming of the architecture creating cohesiveness between the neighbouring buildings New office and apartment buildings in the area elevates and invites people and young families to occupy the new Blok M area. Therefor giving new life and identity to the area. The minimalization of the personal transportation in the area giving the area a pedestrian oriented commercial area.

Void Apart
Hidden in the Woods Meditation House for Couples
2nd Year Project
The difference between inside and outside can mean many things. Two very contrast in meaning and in experience. What if you can combine inside and outside into a single building?
By disconnecting the corridor and push it underground creating the effect of going in a basement (inside). The kitchen, bedroom, diningroom, and meditation room that is located above ground creates an atmosphere of isolation because there are no exits visible above ground level. Only a framed scenery created by the geometric shape of the rooms, and a single window that acts as the canvas (outside). The corridor exists only for circulation. There isn’t another reason to experience inside and outside everytime switching room.
