NASSAU BAY GARDEN CLUB
For the summer months, the Nassau Bay Garden Club will be on hiatus until the August 27th extravaganza Fundraiser at Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook. There are still a few tickets left, and the Clbu will abide by CDC Covid guidelines for the event. Please join the Garden Club for beautiful runway fashions, gorgeous auction items, interesting drawing items, and a delicious lunch. For tickets and/or to donate items, please email Royce at rwalkeus@yahoo.com. This is the Garden Club’s only fundraiser and it supports many of the Club's projects, including scholarships, maintenance of five (5) City gardens, Christmas decorations at Tranquility garden, donations to The Brookwood Community and to Robinson Elementary’s Junior Gardeners Program, and to the World Gardening Program. Club members also spearhead Arbor Day and participate in Beautification Day and the peninsula conservation. Needs are great in order to continue their good work. Please continue all your landscaping efforts - Nassau Bay is making a big comeback again … like it always does. Have a safe summer!

FEEDING THE WATERFOWL
The Nassau Bay Parks Committee knows that feeding ducks and geese at the Nassau Bay parks is a treat for many visitors, especially for young children. Unfortunately, bread is the dominant item that is being fed to the waterfowl. A recent “Hints from Heloise” states, “Ducks like the taste of bread, but it is bad for them. What are good choices to feed ducks? Lettuce, thawed raw peas, oats, birdseed, cooked rice, seedless grapes, and sweet corn - cooked or raw! Ducks in the wild eat grass, water plants, and insects. P.S. Making the ducks dependent on people feeding them is not ideal, but feeding them occasionally is OK." The Nassau Bay Parks Committee encourages visitors to our parks to follow Heloise’s advice. Also, if you feed the waterfowl, please do it in grassy areas away from the roadway and sidewalks. Thanks for helping to keep our waterfowl safe!
