NAS facilities close for holiday

aval Air Station Key West offices and facilities, including the commissary, NEX and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, are closed Thursday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The commissary will be open Monday - normally it’s closed - for shoppers preparing for the holiday. The commissary returns to normal hours of operation the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27. No longer in uniform, Work and Family Life Consultant Tom Butler is once again assisting Sailors as a civilian contractor with Fleet and Family Support Center. Butler was Naval Air Station Key West’s command career counselor until his retirement in June.
Retired NCC turns counseling focus to military families

R
etired NCC Tom Butler has come home, at least in the sense he is back working with his favorite people - Sailors at Naval Air Station Key West. Only he is now adding other military services, as well as military spouses and families, to
his care list. At the beginning of November, Butler returned to NAS Key West as the work and family life consultant at Fleet and Family Support Center. “I spent 24 years working for Sailors,” said Butler, who helped thousands of Sailors set and reach their career goals. He said his decision to pursue the position at
FFSC was based on one thing: “I just wanted to be back working with the Sailors,” he said. As the WFLC, Butler oversees the ombudsman and individual augmentee support programs. “This gives me an opportunity to work for them, and then, more so, to work for the families,” he said. Butler said his Navy

experience is a benefit in his new position. For example, while on active duty he not only served as an IA, he was also in charge of IA Sailors at a previous command. Butler said his desire is all about supporting Sailors and their families. “Now I’m on the other side, a civilian,” he said.
