aval Air Station Key West’s Multicultural History and Heritage Committee hosts a luncheon and presentation as part of November’s National American Indian Heritage Month on NAS Key West’s Boca Chica Field Thursday. The presentation featured history, speeches and Native American food.

Give thanks, facilities close Thursday From NAS Key West Public Affairs

aval Air Station Key West offices and facilities, including the commissary, NEX and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, are closed Thursday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The commissary is open for regular hours on Monday - normally it’s closed - for shoppers preparing for the holiday. The commissary will

also be closed Thanksgiving and the day after, Nov. 26. It returns to normal hours of operation the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26. For more information, call 305293-4402. The NEX is closed Thursday but have special sales starting at 6 a.m. Friday. Safety: Key ingredient in holiday meal From NAS Key West Fire and Emergency Services

W

hether your turkey comes from the oven or the fryer, safety should be the first ingredient in creating a successful holiday meal. While the National Fire Protection Association discourages the use of outdoor gas-fueled turkey fryers because of the potential for burns and catastrophic fires, those fryers continue to be popular

with consumers. The NFPA asks those consumers to remember the following safety practices: Turkeys must be completely thawed and dried of excess moisture before placing in the fryer, because a partially thawed turkey will cause the oil to splatter causing serious burns.
