A
retired Sailor this week assumed the position of Naval Air Station Key West’s Sexual Assault Response Coordinator. Boston native Jessica Kushon retired from the Navy in 2012. Her involvement in the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program dates back to the program’s start. “I’ve been in the program since 2000,” she said, adding “I’ve been a military and civilian victim advocate for nearly 16 years.” While in Kushon the Navy she
traveled extensively, visiting 42 states, 11 countries and spending time on five aircraft carriers. She also is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom and Unified Response [Haiti]. After retiring, she chose to continue her work with the Navy’s SAPR program as a victim advocate and the SARC at NAS New Orleans/ Joint Reserve Base Belle Chasse. In 2014, she was a civilian victim advocate at Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada. “While there I gained invaluable experience working with all carrier air groups and TOP GUN,” she noted. Kushon said her emphasis is going to be on education with a focus on preventing sexual assault. “I truly understand the difficulsee sarc page 3
