Coast Guard lauds SAR team

The 7th Fleet Band operates out of Fleet Activities (FLEACT) Yokosuka and supports 7th Fleet’s forward-deployed naval forces, 83 tenant commands, and 24,000 personnel.

aval Air Station Key West’s Search and Rescue team was recognized with a letter of appreciation presented Wednesday by Coast Guard Sector Key West Commander Capt. Jeff Janszen for a recent emergency rescue at sea. Shown, from left, are Lt. Cody Harris, Lt. The letter commended the SAR Team for recovering a distressed cruise ship passenger Dec. 3. The SAR unit, as well as the team’s maintainers, had to leave the command holiday party to execute the mission, which took them to a ship at sea 30 miles off the coast of Cuba.

aval Air Station Key West Commanding Officer Capt. Bobby Baker recognized the station’s top Sailors and civilian during awards quarters Thursday on Boca Chica Field. PO1 Jeffrey Allen II has been selected as 2016 Sailor
of the Year for superior performance as radar branch chief for the Air Operations Department. “Petty Officer Allen expertly led, trained and mentored Sailors in the completion of over 91,000 radar flight operations, 9,621 simulated radar approaches and 2,090 simulator hours in support of Naval and joint service
units,” said Baker in the award announcing the SOY selection. “Under his leadership, the installation became the first Naval Air Traffic Control facility certified to use and incorporate the next generation air traffic control surveillance systems for separation of air see soy page 5
