tion program. Artificial turf was laid this week on a portion of the soccer/football field, according to MWR Director Tim Campbell. Work on the softball field continues next week and the project, which began in April, should be complete by the end of summer, he said. “This will improve the quality of the playing fields,” said Campbell. “Our fields were getting torn up
because of fire ants and iguanas; it was hard to maintain the fields. “We submitted for this project in 2010 and have been working with CNIC and Naval Facilities Engineering Command the last two years in the contract requirements,” he added. Another project, the .4 mile fitness trail, should be finished this fall, he said. That project’s completion rests with the instal-
lation of the turf, as the trail starts at the tennis courts and winds through the fields, past the Youth Center and Information, Tickets and Travel office. “There are five exercise stations along the trail,” Campbell said. “The trail itself is a finished product with a rubberized surface.” The Youth Center addition, which started a year ago, is nearly complete and see Projects page 8
