MWR programs earn four stars in CNIC audit From NAS Key West Public Affairs

aval Air Station Key West’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation program fell just a few points shy of a five-star accreditation following a recent audit by Commander, Navy Installations Command. The audit team, which announced the results Aug. 6, awarded the program four stars, according to Timothy Campbell, MWR director. “This was the first time we were visited by a CNIC team, but the standards have been under development for several years,” Campbell said. The CNIC accreditation team lead was Karen Widman, assisted by Leslie Gould, also from CNIC, and Amy Cimino-Shockley from Commander, Navy Region Southeast. “The purpose of the audit is to provide consistency and quality programming at all installations,” Campbell said. Although the audit was a review of all local MWR programs, only five have specific set of standards, he noted. The Child and Youth Program wasn’t included in this audit. $13.1 million in sales boosts NAS NEX into winner’s circle

avy Exchange Key West employees, patrons and service members were recognized for winning the 2014 Bingham Award during a ceremony Tuesday at the NEX on Sigsbee Park. Thanks to sales of fuel, recreational items like fishing gear and bikes, and consumables, NEX had $13.1 million dollars in sales for 2014. The award was for Sales

Category 5 ($7 - $14 million). “This year we earned 106 percent more than last year, and 109 percent over our planned earnings,” said NEX Key West General Manager Ron Dotson. “This award not only shows earnings, but a partnership between the NEX and the supporting command. “Winning this Bingham Award represents a tremendous achievement on the part of all the store associates and managers as well as the base community,” Dotson said. “The spirit, dedication and

professionalism of all our associates exemplify that each take to heart the mission of our command.” NAS Key West Commanding Officer Capt. Steve McAlearney lauded the NEX for its accomplishment, given its size. “The NEX plays such a large role in such a big area, for such a small establishment,” McAlearney said. “Key West has such sparse shopping selections and this NEX means a lot to every military family see nex page 3
