Countdown starts on 2016 air show From NAS Key West Public Affairs
T
he countdown has started as the 2016 Southernmost Air Spectacular air show, featuring the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron the Blue Angels, is just a year away - April 2 and 3. An estimated 36,000 people attended the 2013 air show, which was March 23 and 24. Those numbers didn’t reflect the scores of boaters who watched from the water.
While Naval Air Station military and civilians will support the show by providing air facilities, plans and manpower, the heavy lifting of funding civilian performers, children’s activities, food and beverages, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department will coordinate the air show logistics. Because the air show is free, the funding to contract civilian performers and provide activities comes from sponsorship provided by local businesses and individuals.
SAS Sponsorship Coordi nator Emma Harlow leads the effort to garner those funds. In 2013, she contracted nearly $291,000 to support the air show. Harlow has already started promoting sponsorship. The SAS air show website, www.airshowkeywest.com, is up and running and will start reflecting updates soon. The Facebook page NAS Key West Southernmost Air Spectacular also will start showing activity with see air show page 3
