$2.26 provides a meal and more Thanks to faithful friends like you, men, women, and children are always welcome to our emergency shelter. They are welcomed just as they are … cold, hungry, and tired … and you give them a warm place to stay, a meal to fill their empty stomach, and a place they can rest from the worries they face. Imagine what might have happened to Charles if caring neighbors hadn’t found him? Or if the Mission wasn’t here to help him?

Before coming to the Mission, Charles spent more than ten years living on the streets.

Thankfully, someone did find Charles and because of your support, he found rescue and refuge at Nashville Rescue Mission. Through case management, it was discovered that for many years Charles had worked as a mechanic for Sears before developing dementia and had some retirement savings he didn’t know about.

Thanks to you, Charles recently moved out of the Mission and into a long-term care facility that is fully equipped to care for him as he battles dementia. Who knows where Charles might be were it not for you and the Mission?

This winter there are more men and women, much like Charles, battling life on the streets. Which is why your support to provide basic necessities to our neighbors in need is so critical.

COLD PATROL HITS THE STREETS YO U W I L L R E S C U E LIVES THIS WINTER

It’s estimated there are between 2,000 to 3,500 homeless people living in Nashville.

When the temperatures drop below freezing, the consequences of staying outside can be deadly.

For those sleeping on the streets, the cold winter can be deadly.

“When the temperature drops to 32 degrees or below, the Mission’s Cold Patrol team is put in motion,” said Mike Tatar, Director of Case Management Services.

“Teams of two canvas the streets of Nashville and the downtown area at 3:00 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m. in search of individuals on the streets and in need of a warm, safe place to stay.”

It can feel overwhelming at times to see the needs of the homeless. So many people choose to look away and ignore them.

But what gives me great hope is the compassion you show our city’s homeless. You take their needs to heart. You provide them with a place of rest and recovery at Nashville Rescue Mission.

The practical, compassionate care you make possible is like a warm welcome for those like Charles, who turn to the Mission for help. Between the filling meals, the warm shelter, and the encouragement of God’s word, these individuals begin to regain hope and look forward to the future.
