AN EXPLORATION OF COLLABORATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING EVERY SUMMER, Nashoba Brooks School introduces our summer reading list and takes an initial dive into our annual theme, which serves as the platform for conversations and professional development throughout the year. This summer, we read with a focus on the concept of Collaborative Problem-solving. Preschoolers will read The Little Red Fort, by Sonia Sanchez. This new and exciting adaptation of the old favorite story, The Little Red Hen, tells about Ruby, a young girl with a big dream: to build her own fort. A fun, funky, and feminist tale, this book will inspire young readers everywhere. Kindergarteners will read What Should Danny Do?, by Adir and Ganit Levy. help Danny, superhero-in-training, make hard choices about the challenges he encounters! Grade 1 students will read Sofia Valdez, Future Prez, by Andrea Beaty. When her abuelo hurts his ankle at the local trash landfill, Sofia Valdez decides to tackle the problems she sees in her neighborhood. In this exciting and powerful book, Sofia attempts to turn Mount Trashmore into a park, and proves that even one kid can make a big difference. Grade 2 students will read Going Places, by Peter and Paul Reynolds. In this riveting tale of a go-cart contest, accompanied by stellar illustrations, each contestant must build a go-cart from the same materials. Maya decides to think outside the box—can she still win the race?
