VOETS 2020 - 2023

About me

Hello, my name is Nard. I’m a student Product Development at the University of Antwerp.

I’m a person who is driven by curiosity and the need to feel adrenaline from sports once in a while.

The feeling of things I don’t know in a field of interest is abhorrent, I need to know everything about it.

Mentality

I enjoy both the creative thinking and technical aspects of design. The innovation in these fields is a thing I like working on, this with thinking about every detail.

Software

Generally, I possess strong computer and software skills, and I have a knack for quickly grasping new programs and technologies.

Product and Production

2nd year

I have incorporated a feature that allows for accommodating individuals who require a wheelchair or a high chair. By making adjustments to the table, a chair can be removed to create space for either a wheelchair or a high chair, ensuring inclusivity and convenience for all users.

For this particular project, I decided to design tables specifically intended for spring parties. These tables are designed to be easily set up at each individual setting and can be conveniently stored and loaded in and out of a truck.

Catapult

The egg has to travel as far as possible and land in the cup. The challenge was to make it light as possible and it has to fit in a 210mm * 297mm * 60mm box. This uses only the potential energy of a bottle of water(0.5l). The materials were limited to cardboard, wooden sticks and glue.

1. Taking out the stick to start the project. 2. The rail falls... Bottle for ballast

3. with the rail falling a string comes loose and the egg gets catapulted upwards.

4. The egg lands on the rail and rolls further...

Mechanism

1st year

In a design project, I encountered a problem where I needed to convert a single translating input into two different movements, both occurring on the bottom side of the object. To achieve this, I implemented a mechanism that the outputs came out seperatly.

The first output comes out and when you press on the output it can’t move.

Starting the movement...

They are both out and when you press the output it can’t move.

Throughout the majority of the project, I utilized cardboard as the primary material for fine-tuning the design. However, when it came to achieving precision in the final millimeters, I transitioned to Solidworks.

To make it work effortless there is a bearing.

Surface modelling

3 rd year

For the assignment, I made ‘Marty’, from the Madagascar movie. It was made in surface modeling on Solidworks. The rendering is done in blender, the colors and the hairs makes it more realistic.

I encountered significant difficulty and struggled immensely while attempting to shape the nose, making it one of the most challenging aspects.

Because Solidworks is a parametric program and made to make products, cars,.... It isn’t made to make animation figures this was to chalange ourselves to the maximum. And to make this all ‘curvature continuous’ was hard, accidentally this you can control with zebra stripes.

USER EXPERIENCE

natural history museum guide

3 rd year

At the art piece, you can put the egg in the device.

animations about the artpiece are visible on top of the device. The projector starts projecting.

Then place it in a holder. It will start projecting your summary of the museum: things you both liked, and things you disliked.

At the end of the museum you meet another visitor, and you can connect the eggs.

Discussing the art is one of the main goals of the project.

Game

3 th year

For this assignment, I created a game that incorporated arcade buttons and an LED strip. The game’s functionality and interactivity were made possible through Arduino. I programmed the game’s controls, allowing players to interact with the arcade buttons and triggering corresponding actions within the game. The LED strip was integrated to provide visual feedback and enhance the gaming experience. This fusion of hardware components, Arduino programming, and game design resulted in a fun game.

Dorm Room

To maximize space in a friend’s dorm room, we devised a solution by creating a platform to elevate the beds. Since we were unable to drill or bolt anything onto the walls, we opted for an alternative approach. We designed and constructed pillars as supports for the platform. These pillars were crafted to be sturdy and stable, providing the necessary structural support to hold the bed in place.

Side projects

Windsurf Fin

For my windsurf board, which is primarily a waveride board, I decided to make my own fin to suit my needs for freestyle maneuvers in closed waters with heavy seaweed presence. The unique feature of this fin is its curved shape, which allows it to trail behind the board, reducing the chances of getting caught in seaweed.
