As the amount of productive land per capita reduces relative to the growing global population, the concern to improve agricultural productivity rises. Modern agriculture productivity has provoked challenges due to the increased demand of the population. Global food security is a significant concern as it can’t meet human needs. A significant culprit of lower food production is the low efficiency of conventional fertilizer absorbed by plants. To enhance crop productivity, slow-controlled release fertilizers are used that can increase nutrient use efficiency and lower the negative impact on the environment. Slow controlled-release fertilizers reduce nutrient loss, increase crop production, and reduce plant toxicity and stress. A wide range of fertilizer coating materials that is applied to granular or prilled nitrogen fertilizers. As urea includes higher amounts of Nitrogen of common soluble fertilizers, it has opted as a base material for most SCR. Wax, oils, Nitrogen, and synthetic polymers are used for coating and creating controlled release products.
